"Dear [removed member name] I am sorry you feel this way. Although this service visit was 2 years ago I was able to look up the job information. You did indeed have a maintenance agreement with us, and you did get the maintenance that you were due. I can certainly empathize with you for not being happy with the situation of your refrigerant leaks. However here are the facts as you wrote them. The system was 5 years old and not installed by us. You had multiple leaks in your condensing unit coil. The manufactures warranty was 5 years on the coil and it was out of warranty. We quoted you replacing the coil with all labor, refrigerant recovery, and recharging the system for $1800. Since your equipment was out of warranty we also gave you the option of replacing the condenser, and indoor coil with new equipment comparable to what you have for $3800. We never do any work without approval by the customer. Your maintenance agreement was canceled by you in April of 2014, when it was to be renewed for the following year."
Service Contract:
Said they would show up early in the morning between 8 and 10 a.m. and then not show up until 4 or 5 p.m. causing me to lose a full day of work. This happened at least four times until I got smart and dropped them. This was problematic since I was a fairly new employee and worried this would affect my continued employment. Plus they never fixed the problem.
Installation:
The outside unit that was installed was oversized which caused it to continually freeze up and did not adequately cool the residence. Plus the coolant line was not secured properly leading it to leak coolant.
The new unit was run through the old unit causing the system excess stress and perform double duty. The air handler was cracked in three places. The furnace was installed atop a metal box with no sound suppression. When the furnace clicked on it sounded like a 747 taking off from Logan Airport. Plus the furnace was vented incorrectly. The result was a need to remove the old unit at a cost of approximately $1,700.00. Then I had to replace both furnace and air conditioner at a cost of approximately $16,000. This for a system less than 10 years old. This was money I was going to use to refinance my mortgage. To date, Sanford has cost me close to $20,000 if I include excessive heating and cooling costs due to their faulty installation and shoddy workmanship. This does not include money I would save on interest if I had been able to refinance my mortgage.
I am one of three people in my set of condo units who have had problems related to Sanford's installations and have incurred additional costs as a result. All three of us have dropped Sanford as a service provider. If you do not want to endure the financial problems we have encountered, chose another service provider for your heating and air conditioning needs.
"Thank you so much for the wonderful review of our company. We all read it here in the office and it made all of us so happy knowing that we achieved what we strive to do each and every day. We look forward to working with you in the future and thank you again!"
A very complicated experience that we will not detail here. Bottom line: Sanford employees were professional, prompt, courteous and, in the end, they did exactly the right thing when we questioned the billing. They lived up to the claims on their website. Recommend using them for Carrier systems.
