crossroads advertised as a women owned business, but only the owner and office worker are women. where are the women carpenters? not a good tactic and i should have taken that cue and not used them..
.the estimate came quickly but the people who showed up to do the work were different. poorly experienced. one guy walked through my downstairs rooms carrying carpet tack and splinters of wood in his hands.all the way out the front door , down my front brick walkway. no use of construction bags. i was horrified. 3 pets and that mess from back to front. they never did get bags used some i had even after complaints to their boss.
although stuff that had to be moved was done neatly, i found a full box on top of my printer!
they were good with my pets, to their credit. that is important to me.
while my staircase was replaced, it was obvious the workers were poorly experienced. there was a gap at the top of the stairs with a cap that fell off, my woodwork was badly damaged along the side of the treads and living room baseboards too because of their smashing on the stairway.
the workers were pleasant, but spilled coffee was everywhere, and every single houseplant including two mature potted trees died. have not been able to afford to replace them. i have before and after photos of the work.it still breaks my heart. even the heartiest potted plants died.
my garage ceiling was to be painted, everything was supposed to be draped off and protected with plastic sheeting which was already in the garage. they never did it. there are still splatters of paint and worse-sticky residue from cutting laminate floor wood
is still stuck to stuff. the photos show a dark edge all the way around the ceiling where the edging was not done.
most of my flooring was from ikea, already bought, along with ikea's install kit. there were very specific directions not followed. the flooring was smashed as opposed to tapped into place. it will not last as long as ikea' warranty because of installation non-compliance. the kit disappeared, thrown out, i think.
there is daylight between the kickplates and the stairs. the top edging is still unsafe.
my apologies. i am disabled with lyme disease.my really good days aren't very predictable or consistent, the reason
the review wasn't done right away,as it should have. my energy is very limited.
pretty heartsick. my concerns were blown off, and i didn''t have the energy. i do have the photos, however.
the feeling i got was that it wasn't a big enough job to warrant much concern.
saw one worker at the market not too long after. he was no longer working for crossroads.
would never ever use them again or recommend them to anyone else.
are they in business? there are never ads in the angies magazines.
i would really love to get my trees back..
I also noticed our new basement door was progressively difficult to close over the year since it was installed, and recently I had to throw my shoulder into the door to close it, It was hitting the door frame on the top and bottom. Seems the house settled/shifted over the year. I called CrossRoads, and they sent the installer to re-position the door within the frame so that it closed easily (removed some shims behind the hinges). This too was done at no charge.
What I liked about both experiences is that they back up the work that they do, even over time. They are a small women owned business that adds a personal touch to their jobs. Because of this, I have referred them to friends, who have used them successfully.
