After sending the contract and $200 deposit, we waited 10 days for them to contact us to schedule the install. They did respond to my email and scheduled the work for the next week. The terms of the contract called for time and materials based on two men at $55/each, time to include preparing the truck and travel to the job site.

I was present during the full 7 hours they were at my home. They worked very slowly but carefully. I asked them to hide the cord, which they did by cutting a hole in the sheetrock beneath the unit and running it down to another hole next to the receptacle. They installed a new box and GFI receptacle. They had not brought any electrical supplies (not even tape or wire nuts), so I went to Lowe's to pick up what was needed. After 7 hours I told them that I would patch the sheetrock (since they didn't have those supplies either). They did not install molding either.

The final bill was $863. This did not include the cost of the AC or the sleeve. I have asked other owners in our condo complex, and no one has paid more than $350 for installing an AC.

I wrote to the owner itemizing the above and telling him I thought the cost was unreasonable. He won't budge. I have no intention of paying this amount, so the saga will likely go on for a while.
