"We are very surprised by this review. The client purchased a home and through their real estate agent Malley Electric was hired to rewire his home. In the contract it stated that the home owner would be responsible for any patching required for this rewire. Due to what appeared to be poor communication between this client and their real estate agent, the home owner did not understand this fact. Taken from our messages from client : "Yes please that would be fantastic. What the realtor told you and me are completely different. If you could have some one come over I would be very grateful. She told me you where taking care of everything. Guess that was the big misunderstanding. Let me know when you would be able to send someone out.Once that is done I will delete my comment and leave 5 stars. I know the holes where necessary up stairs." Once the client reach out to our company about this issue, our company went above and beyond and patched the holes to alleviate the concerns of this client and as we always do, to make sure we had a happy client. The last message from the client was "That looks great. Thank you." received on December 1, 2016 at 10:43am. We have all documentation at our office showing this client was completely satisfied."
The previous owner of my house upgraded the service to 200 Amps, but when he installed the new main panel, he put it in the bathroom closet! (It is against code to put a panel in a bathroom.) Tim Malley inspected the situation himself, and said it would have to be moved to a different location. I suggested reversing it and putting it in the hall on the other side of the closet wall. Tim said that double breakers in that panel needed to be replaced by singles, too, as the panel wasn't rated for them.
His crew arrived in the morning and worked quickly to tag all of the wires, free them from the panel, cut a perfect new hole in the wall on the hall side and reconnect everything.
They used new wires and wire nuts to turn a tangled mess into an orderly panel. It took a lot of work, but they finished in one day and had everything up to code.
Excellent work, and nice people to do business with. They explained everything they did, and made sure I was happy with the outcome.
I can't, with good conscience, recommend them to anyone.
We are doing a retro fit of an island in our kitchen. We needed 2 outlets, one for a small fridge and 1 for plugging in appliances. The plan was for the electricians to work in conjunction with the cabinet installers, so that the wiring could be run between the cabinets. The cabinets work began at 8am and the electricians were to arrive between 10 and 12. The cabinets were finished at 12. At 12:15 I called Malley's to see when I could expect the guys. I was told they were finishing an other job, were getting lunch and would be here after. They arrived at 1 pm. I showed them the finished island, told them where I wanted the outlets, took them down to the panel, showed them how to access the space above the rooms and left them to their work.
They plugged along. One of the men was a master electrician and the other was his apprentice. They didn't perform like experienced electricians. There were frequent trips to their truck because they didn't anticipate what tools were needed , they didn't have another snake so they had to borrow mine, they didn't have enough basic electrical supplies in the truck, so they had to scramble to find an outlet box. They spent over an hour cutting the hole for the convenience outlet, and again, I had to lend them a tool. After the box was in place, they were not sure if they had screws to secure it to the cabinet. Another trip to the truck and yes they had the screws. They finally finished at 5:45 pm. T J Malley's policy is to bill the customer when the job is complete. They used a tablet to communicate back to the office, then hand wrote a statement. The bill says $120.26 in materials and $625 for labor. There is no breakdown for materials, but here is my count. 100 ft of 12/2 copper wire, 1 circuit breaker, 10 wire staples, 1 4" x 4" electrical box, 1 three prong outlet, 1 cover, 1 plastic outlet box, 3 wire nuts, and 2 screws. If I had to pay full retail at Lowe's, the cost of materials would be under $60. I estimate their cost to be less than $40. They were here for 4 1/2 hrs of which over an hour was spent just cutting the hole in the cabinet. Since it was so late I was unable to call the office and dispute the charges. I paid the bill and sent them on there way.
The next day I called the office to express my unhappiness with the cost. She pulled the invoice, looked it over and began making excuses. "they were there for 41/2 hrs"," there was a master electrician doing the work", "there are lots of small screws, nuts etc", " we were not charged for 1 hr at the master rate". I knew she couldn't change anything, so I asked to speak to the owner. He was out of the office, but would get back to me, 2 days later and I hadn't heard from them. I had gotten their name through Angie'slist and before I wrote a review, I wanted to give them a chance to make this right. I called again and again he was out of the office, but would get back to me. Well here we are, no return call and I am tired of waiting.
We are new to the area, and I believe in supporting the local community when possible. I chose T J Malley partially because they are in our town. I can't properly express our disappointment in how this turned out. Malley's advertises renovation experience, this was a very basic job and should have been completed in half the time. The charge for the parts is outrageous! There are a lot of choices for electrical contractors, and I know the ones that are successful recognize how important value is. The customer must feel they got good value for the price. Not necessarily the cheapest, but the best value. I did not receive good value from T J Malley, and when others ask me I won't hesitate to tell them so.
I am satisfied with the generator and the work done. It would have helped a lot to get updates and communications during this process because no communication made it seem like nothing was being done, when actually Malley was talking to Generac, and Generac was delaying things by asking them to try different things to fix the defective generator instead of just sending another one, and the delay in getting a replacement generator was due to all available generators having been sent to Hurricane Sandy effected areas. If this was communicated, we would have been more understanding of the delays.
So, in summary, the installation work was done great. I would recommend more communication to customers when there are issues because silence is equal to nothing being done from our stand point. We may have just been that one unlucky install where things go wrong, and those things happen, so I don't blame them for that, but my feedback to them would be to keep the customer up to date on what is going on.
