I started with a Honda Dealership in Manchester where I bring my wife's car for service. I initially thought the vibration was coming from an AC Compressor that they installed in May 2012. The dealership had two shots at trying to find the vibration cause and failed miserably. First they said it was a worn tensioner which cost me $393 to install. After it was installed and the mechanic said it was all set, I left the dealership and on my way home when I discovered the vibration was still there. I called next morning and brought it in again they said it was the engine mounts and gave me a bill of $693 to sign. They felt it and quot;mightand quot; work. That's when I decided to get a second opinion.
I brought the car to Meineke of Hudson where I usually have my car work done and they spent a half hour looking for the problem. They pulled an engine mount and showed me that it was damaged and told me they could install it and if it didn't work, they would re-install the original mount at no charge. Unbelievable, an auto repair shop that actually stands behind their work. They told me that the other two engine mounts appeared to be fine.
Anyway, they installed the new engine mount and to our amazement, the vibration was still bad. I was depressed. The manager said and quot;okay, let's change the engine mount back to what it wasand quot;. I said and quot; No, leave it onand quot;. I'll just have a problem later.
I stayed in the garage area and spoke to the mechanic which most places won't allow you to do. After about 15 minutes of discussion, the mechanic found the problem. A bolt was wedged between one of the other engine mounts and the engine. It was in an area where you would not suspect a problem. They pulled the bolt out and lo and behold, the vibration stopped. And it all happened right in front of my eyes. I was so relieved, I almost kissed the mechanic.
I have lived in Nashua for 50 years and I have been going to Meineke in Hudson for about 12-13 years. All the previous years I searched for a mechanic that I could trust and believe me, I brought my cars into a great many repair shops in the Nashua area but none I could say I could really trust. Meineke is the best around. They tell you what is wrong and show you exactly why they know it is wrong. No guessing games, no hemming and hawing. They explain everything to you in a way you understand. And they stand behind their work.
