I entered into a contract with Tradewind Properties, LLC of Hooksett, NH to provide roof replacement and other work at my home. The contract described the work to be performed, the materials to be used, total costs and terms of payment. Upon execution, the contractor, owner Matthew Bouchard, was given an initial deposit of $1550.

Roof work began on 6/27/14 and the contractor was given a second payment in the amount of $3108. On 7/2/14, the contractor requested an advance payment of $2000 so he could pay his crew before breaking the July 4th holiday. I gave the contractor the $2000 advance payment.

The contractor?s crew returned on the Monday following the holiday weekend and continued to work until Tuesday, July 8th. When I arrived home on that date the contractor had already packed up and left the job site. It appeared that the roof had been re-shingled, however, the entry door rain diverter had not yet been installed nor had the roof?s rusted stack pipe been sanded and painted per our contract. I contacted the contractor and he assured me that these items would be completed when they returned to install the entry door. He requested that I make a payment in the amount of $732 which was the amount due on the roof project as well as a $600 deposit towards the entry door job. At that time, I gave him a payment in the amount of $1332. We agreed that he would check on the status of the door order and get back to schedule an install date.

I hadn?t heard from the contractor after one week so I called to check to see if he had a date for the install. He did not return my message. I left several more voice and text messages on his cell phone during July. I called his office number, however, it had been disconnected. I attempted to check his website for alternative contact info, however it too had been deactivated. I drove to his office at 78 Londonderry Turnpike Unit E1, Hooksett, NH and found it had been vacated. At this point, it appeared that the company had gone out of business.

On 7/29, I sent a text message to the contractor requesting that he contact me immediately. He sent a text stating that the door had arrived and asked to let him know when I was available to have it installed. I responded with my schedule availability but he never got back to me to confirm a date. I made several more contact attempts but he did not take or return my calls. Days later he sent a text message promising to call me but failed to do so. I continued to reach him without the courtesy of a response throughout the month of August.

On 8/27, I sent him a letter explaining that I was still willing to work with him but that his continued lack of response would compel me to seek a legal remedy. He sent a text stating that he would call me to discuss my letter, however, again he did not call as promised and continued to avoid my follow up calls.

I then sent an email to the company's registered agent, Laurie M. Levesque, urging her to have the contractor call me to avoid legal action. The contractor responded by text the following day stating that there was "internal stuff" going on and that he was having labor issues. He offered to refund my money if I wanted and suggested that we chat to resolve the matter. I responded and told him that I would be available to talk anytime from 9am-12pm on the following day. Again, he did not call me as promised nor would he accept my calls to him.

On 9/12, he sent me a text message stating that he was going to issue a refund. I replied and asked if he had the door and he acknowledged that he did. I asked if he would deliver the door and, if necessary, I would find another contractor to complete the installation. He did not reply. I called his cell phone within minutes and he would not answer. I sent him a text message telling him that I was calling his cell phone and to please answer but he still would not answer.

On 9/17, my wife called the contractor's cell phone from her work number as we had not previously called him from this number. The contractor answered the call. My wife asked him what was going on and why he wouldn't communicate with us. He told her that he was still shorthanded. He told her that he would refund the deposit that he we had given him. My wife told him that the best thing to do was for him to call me to work out the details. He agreed and promised that he would call me that evening at 5:30pm. Again, he did not call.

To date, the contractor has been paid $7,990 which includes a payment of $7,390 for the roofing project which has not yet been completed and a deposit in the amount of $600 for the entry door installation project that was never started. He has continually refused to communicate with me to resolve these problems. He has not refunded my deposit as promised, nor has he offered any refund for payments received for unfinished work. As such, I will incur additional material and labor costs to complete the unfinished jobs for which they have received full payment. Additionally, the contractor?s product and installation warranty which was a significant point of emphasis during his sales presentation and a key factor in my decision to hire the contractor.

At this point, I have exhausted my efforts to resolve this matter with this contractor. I am seeking a $1,600 refund from the contractor, by bank check. Upon deposit, I will provide the contractor with a written release from our contract. The settlement amount includes:

$600 ? refund for cash deposit.

  • $500 ? refund for materials and labor to complete the unfinished roof items.

  • $500 ? refund for loss of the now out-of-business contractor?s warranty.

  • If the contractor accepts my offer then he must make payment, by bank check, within 5 business days. If he rejects my offer, then it will be necessary to pursue legal action to recover all damages stated above plus all court costs and attorney fees. It should be noted that New Hampshire law allows the court to award up to three times the actual amount of damages, plus court costs and attorney fees.

  • Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide to help resolve this matter.

That turned out great. I had him replace some wood rot. He was a very nice guy and I felt like he knew what he was doing. I felt like he was also interested in what was going to serve me best. He told me what I needed to get, he actually went with me to the store and in no rush.

Their plan was to start on a Monday, but we were out of town, so they agreed to start Tuesday and they did.  The original estimate was for about 3 weeks, but Matt (the boss) didn't want to commit due to unknowns.  In the end, it took just over a month, but there was a problem with the windows, so it delayed the project.
For the most part, they guys were really professional.  They were considerate enough to remove their boots at the front door until they had put down drop cloths.  They were fairly consistent on this.  There were a couple days when it was just the painter coming that he didn't do that.  And on the final day, it was hit or miss if they would remove their shoes.
The quality of the rough carpentry is probably good.  Its hard to evaluate, but there are no noticeable problems or issues.  The drywall is ok to good.  The finish work on the drywall is ok.  There are some bumps and a few corners that aren't perfect, but better than the existing house and way better than I could have done.
The trim work is good, but it took awhile to get there.  The original house had 4 inch walls in the attic.  I wanted more insulation and had them add 2 x 2 strips to make a 6 inch wall.  The original windows only had 4 inch trim.  The first attempt they made was to butt trim up against the existing trim leaving a seam in the middle of the window.  That wasn't acceptable, so they came back and did it right.  Looks great now.
The paint was disappointing.  The original contract didn't call for paint, but I had them do it anyway with premium California paint.  After it was done, I wish I would have done it myself.  There are areas where you can see drywall through the paint.  They aren't huge and if I had done it myself, I would probably be ok with it, but its not good for a professional job.  Also, when he was painting the trim, it seems he didn't sweep up the construction dirt, so there is bits of stuff dried into the trim paint.  Again, not good for a professional.  They painted before they put the new windows in due to the delay with the windows, and when they put the windows in, they got the paint dirty around the windows and didn't touch up.  Its bad enough that I'll be doing it myself.
The electrical work was ok as well.  The only bad thing I can say is the thermostats they installed are probably the cheapest you can find and the baseboard heaters are off white, so they stand out against the white trim.  These are items I can easily correct if it bothers me enough, so no big deal.
There was some confusion over the windows.  We didn't call out in the contract how big the windows would be for some reason.  At the time of the estimate I said I wanted big windows like the ones in the front of the house.  So when we started the project and the windows came up, they were just planning taller, not wider windows, so different that what I was expecting.  As a result they had to order new windows which caused the delay.  When they finally came in, there was a mix up and the windows weren't usable.  Matt agreed to go with a better window which he could get immediately but is a different brand from the other windows in the house.  He did this in order to finish the job instead of having to wait another 3 weeks for custom windows.  In the end, we got size of windows we wanted and they look great.
In terms of price, they didn't nickel and dime me.  The electrician did add $100 for an extra light and switch that I asked for.  Also, despite the confusion over the windows and getting a better window, Matt didn't ask for more money there either.
In the end, I would absolutely use they guys again.  However, I would make sure more details are in the contract to avoid confusion, and I would not use them for paint.

We bought a Big Deal for 8 hours' worth of handyman time with Tradewinds. They called us ahead of time to get details on what we wanted to have done. They showed up promptly and completed the work well. They were thorough and very professional. I would definitely use them again.

Workers arrived at approximately 8 AM an all days (3).  Workers worked all day with a short lunch break.  They were competent and personable.  They cleaned up the debris at the end of each day.  The office people were excellent in calling to make sure all was going smoothly.  The office sent an inspector to folow up in the job and inspect the work.  The price was very good and the performance was superior in all aspects.

I was very pleased with the work done at my house. Clint arrived right on time, got my list of what I wanted done- checked to see if I had supplies he would need to accomplish my list before going to buy what was needed. He finished my list and then some. He was polite, neat and he gained my confidence after seeing his work and work ethic.  I would definitely hire this company for bigger projects.

I am having a hard time grading this fairly. The communication with Tradewind was poor, but the handyman himself was awesome... I had a good response with my initial call to trade wind properties to set up the appointment. Laurie asked me to email a list of my projects to her in priority order and include photos if I could, that way the photos could be forwarded to the handyman so he could tell me in advance what materials would be needed and maximize his time there. It all sounded great. I booked the appointment, forwarded off the email and never heard back. I sent an email or two as the day approached, and called the Friday before he was scheduled. I never heard back and had no idea what to buy for my projects. Sunday night I was emailed saying that he wasn't going to come out because some of my projects were outdoor ones and it was going to rain. This was fine as I was still not sure what to buy for the projects. I agreed to a new date as suggested by Tradewind and requested a confirmation for said date. i also again requested a follow up with what I should buy based on my detailed project email. Again, multiple calls a pond voicemails later, no response and no confirmation whether or not the handyman was actually coming out... Fast forward to the tentative date- the handyman showed up (actually contracted from another company), I wasn't even sure he was coming at all. He had not seen or known about any of the projects in advance, did not have my photos or detailed email, and seemed equally frustrated by the poor communication with Tradewind. The handyman himself, however, was VERY good. He started working on a project right away while giving me a shopping list for the other projects. By the time I returned from the home improvement stores, he was finishing up project #1 and had all the materials to tackle the other projects. There were a couple of things that couldn't get finished that day but he left me with specific instructions on the best way to DIY. I would hire the handyman again if I didn't have to go through Tradewind to make that happen. I tried to allow for the fact that they were probably inundated with calls due to the angies list promotion, however this literally was over a period of a couple of months and kind of inexcusable.

They did an excellent job on the roof. It was done exactly like they said it would. They were easy to work with. As with all remodels or additions things come up that are unexpected. They were easy to work with and to overcome any issues to my satisfaction. That is the true test of customer service. I will use them again in the future.

Matt Bouchard from Tradewind really helped me out of a jam.  Earlier that year I had my roof replaced by another contractor. that contractor became very ill and was unable to complete the job.  I called Matt on a Friday morning and he had a crew at my hose in 3 hours and worked the weekend to fix the leaky roof.  I was very happy with his work and paid him for the work completed.  This was when things went bad.  A small amount of painting and some work to replace the chimney was left.  he committed that this would be done the following week.  2 weeks latter I began calling to see when the work would be completed. I left messages and sent emails with no reply.  Eventually I reached matt and he indicated that he would get back to me with time as to when the work woudl be completed.  This never happened.  In the end I hired a third contractor to finish the work.  That contractor showed me a some areas of concern were the job had not been done correctly.  that contractor finished the work.  Tradewind still actually has my original chimney cap - they never retuned it.  I had to pay to have a new one fitted.  I can not recommend this company

After inspecting the roof, I was advised (very nicely) that removal of the moss/mold would result in the shingle being ruined and the roof just basically needed to be replaced.
I requested and received a quote for a new roof which will have to wait until next year. The quote seems fair but I now wish I had thought to ask for some kind of reimbursement for only have 1/2 hour of time rather than the 4 I paid for!

Pro:  Right on time.  Neat.  Focused.  Tough assignment - replacing sash cords is a standup job and the Big Deal was for 8 hrs.

It was very easy to schedule the appointment for the 8 hours of handyman service.  Unfortunately, they were not able to do all of the tasks we had hoped to have done- no fixing a leaking bathroom sink and no installing dimmer switches and they explained to us the reasons why.  The workman was extremely nice and friendly however he was an hour late in arriving because he was given our billing address instead of our home address.  We asked for the deck and granite steps to be power washed but their power washer was broken so he did our deck by hand and never got to the granite steps and  landing. He patched a broken shingle but bought reddish shingles for a black roof. He patched some drywall but did not clean up so I was left to get the spackle off of our wooden stairs.

The idea of eight hours of help was good  but in reality it wasn't really worth it for us since everything he did we could have done ourselves and what he couldn't do was what we really needed done.

The maintenance work they did went very well. Afterwards, I requested a quote for more work. I have waited over a week and they still have not gotten back to me. I'm hoping I'll hear from them soon.

Still waiting for a estimate.  I guess they don't want my business.

She said she loved it.  She had just moved to a new house and she had a list of things that I don't really know, she just said that they were incredibly helpful, I think he had to fix things, install things, and do painting. She was really happy to have it because she have another handyman there but she found it not helpful and this gentleman is apparently much better.

I was absolutely pleased with Clint and Tradewinds Properties, LLC. His his knowledge was extensive and his professionalism  was superior. Clint was able to handle all of the projects on my list including dry wall repair, ceiling repair, flooring (hardwood and tile) repair, grouting, lighting repair and lock set replacement for all of my exterior and security doors. His workmanship was A+. It was a pleasure having Clint on the job. I would have him back in a second for any future work.
