The original estimate for all the work was $800.  It was a verbal estimate, nothing was on paper.  Andy had come recommend

ed from a good friend so I felt I could trust him.  The estimate included the work to be done in the  garage.   When the bill came in it was for $1300!!   The excuse was the cost of materials were higher than expected.   And the electrician had not completed the work in the garage.  When notified of the work not done in the existing garage, the electrician did complete that job promptly, but then charged me another $130.  Both jobs came with itemized lists but the second job's list was easier to decifer and I noted that Andy had tripled the cost of the items as sold retail.  I then did some homework and discoverd he had tripled the cost of almost all the items he purchased.  And these costs I noted were my retail, not his costs as an electrician.  For example:  the breaker box in the garage retails @ Home Depot for $17 and change, Andy charged me $47 for the breaker box.
I would not recommend this electrician unless you get an itemized cost of the work to be performed and then compare his costs to other electricians in the area.
