Initial progress was fast. Back door was moved, siding installed and deck extension were done in two days. Carrying beam was replaced and drywall also went up quickly. Once the finish carpenters go to work, they discovered more problems with the cabinets than had been detected when the job was estimated.
There appeared to be multiple issues catering to and working around the finish carpenters' schedule and we experienced more delays with this stage of the project than we were happy with. Being told that the lead carpenter only worked a half day on the first day so he could watch a baseball game didn't help as it led to us being pushed back more days until he was available again. In the end, his assistant ended up doing the majority of the work.
One chief complaint...prior to the cabinet work beginning, we were told that we were short and needed to order additional pieces of our special order, non returnable cabinet trim, which we did. Later when the project was complete and the trim unused, the Project Manager admitted that he hadn't checked the materials thoroughly and had missed them. We strongly felt that we shouldn't have to pay for his error and that the cost of the uneeded trim should be deducted from our final invoice. He did not agree saying that the project had ended up being more work than he had estimated and that he'd had to pay the lead carpenter more than anticipated.
The project was wrapped up and final invoice paid on April 19th Sceptre in about 3 weeks (original estinate had been a week to 10 days). We are generally happy with the work that was performed by Sceptre but remain frustrated that we had to pay for their error.
We won't be in a hurry to do any remodeling anytime soon, but depending on the job, we may or may not consider them again.
