I've been meaning to write this review for awhile now, but it's been difficult because I want to give an honest summary of our experiences - warts and all - while still being fair about the end result. TLDR: Yes, there were some difficulties, however Donna, Ricky, Tim, and the whole Southers team made sure they were acknowledged, fixed, and in the end we are thrilled with the results. You can teach a person skills or a new role, but what you can't do is teach someone to care. These people care about the work they do and they're willing to put in the time and effort and stick with it, until it's done right. That level of dedication is priceless. Now for the long version... Last July, after interviewing a number of companies, my husband and I decided to hire Southers to take on our house renovations. It was a big job. We needed a new roof, new siding, new gutters, twenty-six new windows, and two new external doors. All of this work also had to be coordinated with an asbestos abatement team to remove our old asbestos siding and our electrician who was replacing our meter and panel for the solar panels we plan to have installed. Donna was our salesperson and she worked with us every step of the way. She helped us decide on the best materials for our project, listened to our concerns about timing, and was incredibly responsive to any text or calls. Luckily, she happened to be promoted right as our project began work so she ended up being our contact through every aspect of our remodel. Yes, there were some missteps, which I will get into, but throughout it all Donna was there to help. I can't speak highly enough about her dedication and professionalism. Initially, we had a few other project managers assigned to our project. The first one ended up leaving the company early in the process. The second project manager was stationed fairly far away and wasn't as "hands on" as we would have hoped. Because of this, our building permit paperwork fell through the cracks which led to our project getting halted until the issue could be resolved. There were also some unnecessary miscommunication issues and one specific error of our external doors being ordered the incorrect size that lead to snowballing consequences. The first crew that Southers sent out to work on our home was fabulous. Pedro and his crew were punctual, professional, and precise. They were tasked to replace our windows, siding, and trim. They showed up every morning bright and early and ready to work. My husband is in construction. Every night, he would come home from work and look over what they had accomplished that day. Then, he would either confer with Pedro or leave me with notes to share with him in the morning. Not only was Pedro open and receptive to this level of communication, he welcomed it. I really appreciated his work ethic and attitude. I wish that I could say the same about the roofing crew. Because we are planning on installing solar panels, it was especially important that our roofing was done well. (Once the panels are installed, it's much more difficult to get any issues resolved.) We decided to use two different roofing materials. The majority of our roof would be asphalt, however we would have metal roofing installed on our back dormer. This was the most cost-effective way to get a new roof while still ensuring the solar panels didn't penetrate the roofing, thereby voiding our warranty. The roofing crew did an incredibly poor job on our roof. When my husband came home and inspected the work, he became increasingly upset, took photos, and contacted our project manager. We insisted that the asphalt roof get redone. Even then, there were some spots that had to be addressed. Our experience with this crew was so negative that when we were told they were also going to be installing our metal roof, we expressed our deep reservations. We were assured someone would be on site to ensure their work. Unfortunately, that didn't happen and the metal roof was also incorrectly installed. At that point, we were both upset. We invited Ricky to meet with us so that we could discuss the issues directly. To his credit, he came - along with Donna - listened to our concerns and frustrations, and committed to fixing the issues. Yes, the roof delayed progress on finishing our project, but I appreciate the fact that they stuck with it and got it done right. Ultimately, we got a good roof installed, but it took a lot of communication, frustration, and diligence on our part. In the end, our home looks fantastic! We knew this was going to be a large undertaking and that it would require a lot of time, effort, and patience. We expected there to be a few missteps along the way. However, it was worth it We now have a beautiful home that we can be proud of. If you have managed to read this far, I'll leave you with a few key lessons that I've learned during this project. 1. Make sure you have a permit to hang in your window before any work starts. 2. If your house is older than 1978, test for lead paint. Any estimates should include the cost of lead abatement. 3. Maintain open, active communication and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself. 4. Stay organized! Keep any/ all documentation and photos throughout the project.

Complaint Details Southers Construction LLC and I both signed a work contract on 7/29/2022 for roof repair. Two areas of the roof would be repaired: chimney reflashing and re-shingling a valley within the roof. For the valley roof repair the work contract stated, "Remove and a**** the current rubber roof. Remove flashing along siding. Remove siding. Assess damage that current system has done. Then properly tie in rubber roof, siding flashing, re-side, and reshingle areas needed. If repair is done sooner than 8 hours, and chargeback will be given." The chimney reflashing work agreement stated, "Grind out old lead from chimney and install new 12" roll of lead step flashing. Install ice and water shield around chimney. Seal each step of lead flashing. Remortar sections of the chimney that we grind out the old lead from." A fifty percent deposit was given to Southers Construction on 7/29/2022 for the work they agreed to complete. The check was cashed by Southers Construction on 8/01/2022. A project manager was assigned to our job on 8/10/2022. The Project Manager came to the house and checked out the job. He suspected the chimney itself needed attention and contacted a mason to inspect it. The mason, not a Souther's employee, said the chimney needed to rebuilt from the roof line. A new chimney was built 9/29/2022. Work began on our roof project on 10/07/2022. Subcontractors, not Southers Construction Employees, were assigned to our job. These subcontractors completed the job that day with a couple quick onsite check-ins, from the ground, by our assigned Southers project manager. On 10/08/2022, the Project Manager came to the house to inspect the work. The job in the valley of the roof was deemed incomplete and unsatisfactory by the Project Manager and would be assigned to another subcontractor for a future date. The chimney work was inspected from the ground, the Project Manager had an injured knee and was unable to climb. We assumed the chimney was completed satisfactory. On 12/17/2022 the repair around the chimney leaking. A replaced interior ceiling was showing a large water mark. Immediately Southers Construction was called; the receptionist said an urgent message would be forwarded and we would hear back from someone. No one returned the call. Subsequent calls were left on Southers voicemail for the following two days. On 12/20/2022 I requested to speak with the owner, I explained the situation. He said he'd have a project manager call me that day. No one called. Southers Construction LLC does not live up to their agreement. The job was not completed in a skillful manner. Souther's subcontracts out the job and does not adequately supervise. Through negligence, Southers Construction, is liable for repair work and interior damage. They will not return my call. Beware of this scam company. They usually start by giving the same old sob story about being a veteran and helping veterans and end up scamming good citizens out of their hard earned money. Before a deposit was put down, we asked Southers to give us a ball park estimate of how much the project will cost in order to decide if to go with an architect and continue with the project or not. Southers will never give you an estimate in order that you can hire their architect and pay them first, only for the architecture to produce sub par drawings and tell us that our outdoor Gazebo will cost $275,000 - $325,000. Keep in mind that this gazebo has no walls. I can build a whole house for that money. This is entrapment in order to give the architects business. We then decided that we will not go with that project anymore if it will be that cost, and we requested our $34000 down for the project. It has been more than 4 months that Southers has not returned that deposit. When we talked to Ralph, he said they will deduct "admin fees" before refunding the deposit. Up until today, the supposed balance of the deposit has not been refunded. Furthermore, what do these "admin fees" entail. Absolutely nothing administrative was done and the project had not started. Southers should get ready to explain to the courts what the "admin fees" are, how many hours were put in should be documented etc. If you claim to have served the military, then don't bring shame to the military with such dishonor and fraudulent business practices. That said, if we don't receive all of that $34000 deposit by this week, I will be contacting the state attorney next week to investigate your fraudulent business practices. You can only hope that your hands are clean and that you pay all your taxes consistently. I will be contacting the Better Business Bureau today aswell.

Southers Construction made three BIG mistakes: 1. After the first day of work, the flashing was removed from the chimney, and not replaced. The next day, there was a torrential rain, so there was water damage to my upstairs ceiling. Southers offered to paint it, but my contractor said the sheet rock needs to be replaced. 2. There were two workers here the second day, apparently without a supervisor. They used nails that were too long on the section of the roof above my back porch. The nails came through the ceiling. The ceiling needs to be repaired and painted. 3. When I asked, before work began, if a permit was needed, I was told no. I subsequently received a "cease and desist " letter from my town until a building permit was acquired.

Outstanding!! The men began work at 7 AM and were fiinished at 7 PM.! They cleaned the property and grounds afterwards leaving it spotless. Vincenzo and his crew worked smoothly and tirelessly. We are very happy with the results and have gotten lots of compliments from our neighbors all of whom were amazed it was completed in one day! We definitely would use them again and certainly recommend them.

Southers Construction replaced the roof on my house and garage. I have a very large home with a complicated roof (lots of angles and connection points) and a large garage. Southers replaced both roofs in 3 days (worked 12 hour days). They were very professional and did a great job cleaning up the mess. I couldn't believe how quickly they got it done. And their cost was the lowest of the 3 estimates I got by a lot. I highly recommend them and will definitely be using them for other work on my house going forward.

Southers Construction's crew were neat and professional and (aside from a few rain delays) the install was completed in a timely manner. They left no mess nor debris when they were done. When I had a question, I would contact Southers sales rep. Jade, who was ALWAYS quick to respond. Ricky Southers, the owner, checked in towards the middle to make sure I was happy with the progress and then at the end to oversee the results.

I got 4 quotes for a roof replacement and ultimately chose Southers Construction for the customer service and reasonable price. During the free estimate, Ricky was the only one to take out a ladder and climb on to the roof to take a look at everything and determine what needed to be done as part of the project. He was very knowledgeable and explained to me what they would fix, how, and why. He also gave me pricing options for some of the additional things I wanted done as part of the overall roof replacement (better airflow using soffits vs roof vents). The team did a great job, I'm very pleased with their work and they did it in one day. They draped the house / bushes to protect them while they worked. They also cleaned up the yard / driveway after they were finished. I didn't find one nail after they were done. I will definitely be calling them back for other projects and highly recommend them.

Phil Merrill and his team did a wonderful job. They were on time as promised began with protecting all plants and shrubs and then proceeded work on the roof.
They were very professional and courteous and kept things neat as they worked.
At the completion of the work, the cleanup was absolutely great and they hauled all the debris away.
Can't speak highly enough of their performance.
Would recommend them to anyone.

Phil was the individual we dealt with for the initial consultation, estimate & roof product review from Southers Construction. He is friendly, knowledgeable and was responsive to all of our questions. We found their pricing very competitive, plus a considerably better than average warranty on their installation/workmanship. The shingle warranty of course is based on the manufacturer, which they are product certified. The job took 1.5 days to complete on an approx 2400 square Ft home & family room. One could tell they were experienced & moved with efficiency and self-assurance. We have the greatest confidence in the quality of their service and installation. What they promised is what they delivered on. We had a few screens damaged in the process which they repaired in a reasonable time frame. We would feel extremely confident in recommending them to family & friends.
