The contractor appeared easy to work with and professional initially. He started the work at a quick pace and efficiently. Unfortunately, thats where my satisfaction ended. The quality of the cabinets and countertop (which we selected from his brochure) turned out to be poor. His installation matched the quality. Finishing was pathetic. In areas where some creativity and thought process was necessary, the job was "force-fitted". Windows, cabinets and appliances were installed without thought given to insulation. As a consequence we have cold drafts from the bottom of cabinets and around the kitchen window. In the laundry room, in our second winter since installation, the drain from the washing machine froze resulting in overspilling of water and consequent flooding into the basement below. The countertop was fabricated in our garage. I had agreed to this as I thought the contractor would clean up after himself. No such luck. It took me a day to clean the mess. Speaking of countertop, it is uneven in some places and is falling apart at the seam. You get the overall picture. A shoddy job to summarize. I guess you get what you pay for. This contactor's quote wasn't the cheapest but was certainly cheaper than some others. So my fault in this case was going with a middle of the road quote. Another biggest mistake on my part - I did not pick a contractor using references. References are a must in this competitive, easy to feel cheated, construction business.
