Water Pumps
I contacted several water treatment companies to have my well water tested because I had been having health problems my doctor couldn't figure out. A friend suggested it might be the water. Summit View was the company that serviced my area and offered a free test. (Which wasn't actually free because the only way to get the test results was to hire them to install the system as it turned out) I met with a sales rep (who was 3 hours late for the appointment) after a long and tedious meeting (which was mostly on the different products available and some elementary school level science {water comes from rain clouds and picks up contaminants from the soil, etc} ) I agreed to buy the system, and wrote a check on the day. The salesman inspected my well pump and figured out where the tanks should go and told me I would need additional wiring for the filtration system. I asked if I should hire an electrician and was told that it would be part of the installation. I emailed several times to get the lab results of the water test (contacting both the sales rep and the secretary) and after several tries finally got to see them. I was already frustrated with the lack of professionalism at this point. I was given a date and time for installation, and no one arrived or called to tell me they weren't coming. This happened a second time. I was fobbed off with the excuse that their electrician was busy. I told them again that I'd hire my own, but they told me I was next in line for installation. When the installers finally showed up, they didn't have the electrician with them. They were very nice and very friendly, but I didn't understand at the time that neither of the was going to do the electrical work. I took them downstairs to the cellar and explained that if they needed to plug in any tools they would have to unplug my sump pump to use the existing outlet. (They said the understood and that the sales rep had already explained that) I told them it was very important that they plug it back in. When they were done they told me they had plugged it back in, and I believed them. They didn't, and my entire cellar ended up with 3 feel of standing water. I emailed pictures of the flood to the owner of the company and told him I was really unhappy about it. The only response was "did you plug it back in?" I told him I had, but had realized that this meant the system wasn't attached to any wiring because no wiring had been added. I also told him that the filtration unit the salesman talked me into under my kitchen sink didn't work (no water came out at all) and that I'd like them to remove it or replace it. He assured me they'd make it work. I finally figured out that it ran off the waste water going down the drain, and got it to work by running water down the drain. I emailed him and told him to got it working and asked again when the electrician was coming. He said the electrician would come and add the wiring, but what actually happened was the owner came himself and borrowed a power strip from me and plugged the system and the sump pump into it, and told me the electrician would come later. The electrician was rescheduled and once again didn't show up. I called the owner and he told me it was because there has been "a lot of power outages" in the town where the electrician lived. I guess he assumed I was too dumb to know that the electric company deals with that sort of thing. Finally after several weeks the wiring was taken care of. The owner was present again. I had been told by the installer and the salesman that the system would "clean itself" once a week or more often if I'd used a lot of water. It was supposed to be set to clean at 3 am. But it was running loudly all the time after the first week and cleaning itself constantly. I check the part of the unit the holds the rock salt used to filter (basically the only part of the system I had access to) all the salt was gone and the installers told me I should only have to add salt once a year. I called the receptionist to ask where I could get more salt and if the installers could come back out and check why the system was cleaning itself constantly. I was told that she would schedule a maintanance call after checking with her boss. He called me later and told me they were very busy but that he would deliver the salt personally and check on the system himself. I didn't hear from him for several weeks. I emailed again about the salt and asked if they please tell me where to buy it He replied without giving me the information about the salt and told me he would send the salesman to do the follow up water test that was included in the price I paid for the system (it was mid March at this point) I said it didn't make sense to me to test the water if the filtration system wasn't working, and asked again where to get the salt. No reply About a month later I emailed again and asked for a refund of the price of the second water test, since it still hadn't happened, questioned him about getting on the maintenance schedule, and asked if I could pick up rock salt at their office location He never responded so I did a Google search on rock salt and went out and bought it and put it in myself but the system still didn't work after I added the salt. At this point I was really annoyed at being ignored and sent him another email to tell him so. I demanded they get someone out to look at the system or come and remove it and refund me. He didn't contact me with in the week, so I started calling and emailing every week, both the boss and the receptionist. I did this beginning the second week of March and kept at it. I heard nothing until from them at all until the second week in May when the salesman left me a voicemail later at night saying he'd be at the house at 7 am the following day to do the water test. I was out of town and emailed to let him know that. Then emailed the boss and told him I wanted a service call, and not the salesman. Nothing. I continued leaving a voicemail and sending an email once a week. The constant running of the tanks has cut my water pressure in half (although I got a new well pump and tank about a months before I hired summit view) and doubled my electric and water bill. (Despite the fact that part of the sales pitch was that it was energy efficient) Finally on the first of September I sent an angry email where I told them exactly how I felt about their customer service. I told the if I didn't hear from them by sept 13th about scheduling maintenance that I would post reviews on every message board I could find, report them to the better business bureau and contact my attorney. Finally called them today, and was informed that I wasn't scheduled for repairs, and was told he the secretary that she had seen my email, and knew her boss had read it, but that they had chosen not to respond because they "weren't impressed with my tone". So all I can do at this point is warn people not to deal with the company and start a legal proceeding.
