This will be a bit complicated, but I will put the summary first- I would both hire and recommend Mr. Edwards with one caveat; I would require a solid, upfront price not an estimate. Mr. Edwards, retired from the power Co., is a great guy. Very easy to deal with and chat with. That said, his estimate was off by... A lot. More than twice as much. However, Mr. Edwards always called updating me with the reasons for new charges. ( We were not there as this job took place) For the most part, I understood that when you are dealing with wires and junctions that are old and behind walls you are going to run into suprises. And there were a lot of them. There were times that design and issues with other contractors cost me extra money. There were issues during this multi-month experience where charges developed that should not have been presented at all, but to be fair, Mr. Edwards absorbed numerous hours, trying to work with me. Plus, I did hire him knowing that he did not have a crystal ball. So, bottom line, the estimate was very low, I can't blame him for the vast majority of the costs that rocketed the bill, and his final work was supurb! So yes, i'd hire him again in a second.... But i will never EVER hire another contractor , inc. Mr. Edwards, without a detailed contract that spells out a total cost of an all inclusive job.
Description of Work: Mr Edwards is pretty much a one man show. He was hired to provide both rough -in as well as finish electrical services for a major residential remodel. He was selected due to his past experience as an electrician for a power company and frankly for his low overall estimate. The job was pretty extensive as we took out the old 100 amp service and replaced it with 200 amp. He had to run all new wires to the new service panel and for the new section of the home, while making connections to the old section including the set up all new plugs and lighting in both parts. Mr. Edwards gave me an estimate as well as a should not exceed limit and charged $50 an hour.
