He was able to provide a design plan quickly, and we agreed on a plan in late September with my initial down-payment to him on October 2. It is now the day before Christmas, and the job remains incomplete. Although the work is high quality, getting him here to work has proven to be extremely difficult. Although we made a design change in terms of choosing different windows, this delayed the construction by only two weeks. In addition, communication with him is difficult, and he has several times forgotten what we wanted (e.g. depth of closet, length of closet). The work is good, but I would have expected that having the room completed in two months was reasonable - it is not large, just about 14' X 20 ft. Many weeks he did not show up at all, while others he was here for 4 or fewer hours one for two days. I have heard many different excuses why he could not work, including hunting season, loss of help, or illness. He has given a "we'll be done by..." date a couple of times, which he has not come close to keeping. If you do hire him, get a date that the job will be completed by, and penalties for not meeting that date.
