He came approximately four times to prep/sand and do the first coat of paint. He had rescheduled a couple of times due to what he described as personal issues, which we understood at the time. His last visit, he was to bring a second person to assist with the high part of the job. What he brought appeared to be a homeless man in new clothes. During this visit, he was constantly berating his helper and seemed irate. We weren't comfortable with this going on in our home. At the time he was finished for the day, he requested his second payment (of 3) and because what we observed to be major issues with his work, we told him that we were comfortable giving him half of the second payment now and would give him the balance when the problems were remedied. Well, he did not like this and proceeded to argue and act erratically, to the point where he needed to be walked out of the house. He claims 25 years of experience, but it is doubtful. I am, like most people, an occasional painter. I have a professional career and have painted a number of times, but it is NOT my specialty. I can best describe his work as sloppy and careless. There were large drip marks on the trim and he hit the white ceiling in a number of places (and he wasn't hired to paint the ceilings, which really didn't need to be painted until he messed them up.) I wound up finishing the work myself, and couldn't believe how bad his work was for as many times as he was there. After the last "incident" he had called to apologize and made several backhanded apologies. He also explained that he brought this helper to hold the ladder and because he felt bad bringing this man to just hold the ladder, he was having him spackle and paint, which I thought was ridiculous. I don't want an inexperienced person doing the work I hired someone for and it was apparent, by the way he was speaking to this gentleman, that he wasn't confident in his skills either. He apparently doesn't understand what professionalism is and he also seems to have a lot of personal problems getting in the way of his career. I wish him the best, but wouldn't ever recommend his services.
Description of Work: We hired Bob to paint our two-story foyer, including painting over some stained/poly'd wood trim. He needed to spackle a few spots on the walls and apply paint to the walls and trim, including a high foyer area.
