This was a good experience. In this and every case, do get a quote up front. And do let the repair facility know you expect them to stick to that quote, barring unexpected circumstances, which they will need to explain to you--and that you will be reviewing their service and work.
Description of Work: I needed several repairs, and some routine maintenance, on a nine-year-old car. After taking all my info, Dick, the Service Manager checked on the availability of parts, and the time needed to install them. Then he called me back with a firm quote. Aamco did the work promptly, and kept to the quoted price. The shop also provided a full inspection of my car, and pointed out another (minor) issue that did not need to be addressed immediately. The shop was clean and Dick was very courteous and professional. Rates for service were $ 85 per hour. That's not cheap. But, for that kind of money, you want the job done right, and in a timely manner. It was.

I was told by Mark at Aamco Transmission that I should have the work done at his shop because they will make the transmission smoother by changing the transmission filter and fluilds. Mark said that all the customers come back and say how smooth the shifting is and how much better their vehicle runs after this type of service. So, I went to pick up my vehicle from Aamco Transmission in Amherst, NH and Mark began to say he noted a noise from the rear differential and said it could be the tires. I said to him it may be tires... I went on to drive it home and the shifting was rougher with the transmission and there is now a whine with the vehicle. Every time I accellerate the "whine" sounds.... Now I call Mark back about this whine that I did not have until I brought it to Aamco.... Mark said its because you drive with your radio on and didn't notice this sound before..... I asked Mark to look at it again and he said it was road tested before we did the work and that whine was there.... I totally disagree with Mark at Aamco Transmission. Now i have a vehicle that makes a loud noise every time you accellerate. My wife drove this and told me - what did you do to this vehicle It makes alot of noise as you accellerate. Mark told me that he will listen to the noise to see if it changed from the time you brought it in...... That is crazy I never had any noise during acceleration from the Transmission, Front Diff, Front transfer case or Rear Differential before I brought this to Aamco. Now I do ...right after I pick up my vehicle from doing this service with Aamco Transmission. I have people who ride in my vehicle that says - what's with the noise from your transmission. This is very frustrating that I go to a Transmission expert to have 100,000 mile service preventative work done and now I return with a vehicle that makes noise during accelleration. -------------------------------------- OVERALL B Rating UPDATED - March 2012 Latest update - Tom (the owner) worked with me and test drove the vehicle, placed it on a lift, the change is a result of the full synthetic Rear Differential Oil vecosity from 90 W regular gear oil to a specialized 70-80w full Synthetic that was verified while on the lift. They spent at least one hour working with me to make sure I was satisfied. I appreciate the follow up with me and I'm changing the rating from F to B rating.
Description of Work: Service Performed Transmission - Power Purge Plus - change fluid, Filter, Pan Gasket, flush system and road test Transfer Case - Change fluid Rear Differential Service - Change fluid Front Differential Service - Change fluid
