Preferred Remodeling

Basement Remodeling, General Remodeling, Mold Testing & Remediation,

About us

Preferred Remodeling and Restoration was built on the values of serving our customers. We know that any home improvement project can be an inconvenience, but the end result is well worth it. We do everything in our power to make your project run smooth, quick, and with top quality craftsmanship. We believe that the rebuild and/or repair process should be the least stressful portion of the property loss or home improvement experience. We do this by using our years of experience in the fire and water damage repair business. Fire and water damage repair has very unique aspects as compared to other types of construction or remodeling projects. Our process starts with an in depth site investigation and estimate preparation with a state of the art estimating program called Xactimate that is accepted by the insurance industry. This system saves time by speeding the estimating process by us and approval process by the insurance company. PR&R next step is to discuss the replacement and go over any choices and decisions that need to be made with the property owner so that there are no hold ups as the project gets underway. As the project gets underway there will be many people working on your house to get you back in as soon as possible. PR&R will have one point of contact for you to keep you informed and answer any questions that you could possibly have. PR&R knows you did not choose this project but we hope to make it as stress free as possible.

We were misplaced from our home for a good six months. They took that long. Incidentally the guy who owned the ServiceMaster franchise is the same guy who owns Preferred Remodeling. So we hired both sides of his business so that they could come in a timely manner and get the house re-built. It dragged on, and dragged on and some of the work we found was sub-standard and it was done in the wrong order. The guy is the nicest guy. We are far away from his office and we do not know what other jobs they have going on. We had to have them come back two or three times to get the jobs right. We still don't have the laminate flooring upstairs as it was not done right. They did not want to come back the third time to fix it. They say that the humidity was not right in the house. This is the best they could do. The things that we said that we wanted done they did wrong. When we tried to be clear with our instructions they were outward persistent. So we had to take apart the laminate floor and re do it. Now it looks like a patch. They had to keep coming back. It was a different kind of an experience. Don’t you think that if you had to cut down a door you would cut the same distance top and the bottom? They would cut most of it from the bottom. So for the handle of the door you have to bend over to open the door because the handle is so low. Such stupid things they do. These were panel doors. We did not get expensive stuff as we were working on an insurance budget. So the doors in the basement are lower because of the low ceiling. They had to free manually around the door and took it in. They had to cut down all the doorways. There was one bathroom door that was shorter. They took most of the lead block on the bottom. So the panel spaces on the bottom of the door is an inch shorter than the bottom of the panels of the door and there is 4 inch shorter at the top of the door, the panel indentations on the door way. I am 5 feet and I have to bend down to open the door. They did not even cut the same amount at the top and the bottom. Just silly little things like that. They put the trim down around at the bottom of the bedroom before the floor went down. We specifically requested a special plastic bubble that goes down on concrete floor because of the moisture; I do not know what they call it, before we laid down the laminate. They forgot to take that height into consideration so when they laid the trim it did not go underneath the laminate as it supposed to but it butted right up to the trim all the way around the room. It does not look good as it was supposed to go underneath the trim. The trim is supposed to go on the top all the way around the edge of the floor. At least they did come back and put down a quarter around to cover up the edge of the floor all the way around. Since they dragged all the stuff out on to the carpet there was mud all over the floor and they were supposed to clean it. In our living room downstairs there were metal stands and stuff that were left rusting on the carpet floor. We could not get this out of the carpet. We requested that the whole carpet upstairs be replaced instead. We wanted laminate put up here as well since both the laminate costs the same as the carpet. So they put down laminate up here too. While doing this they put thin pieces of cardboard from the laminate packaging underneath to level it. It is an old house and there are places on the floor where it is not even all over. The laminate on these uneven floors would only end up breaking. So they came back pulled off the laminate put floor leveling. This made the floor firmer. There was a trouble spot and we told them about it ahead of time. But then around the doorways where the trim is the molding that goes around the door they were supposed to cut the bottom of the trim so that they could get the laminate underneath if they did not put quarter inch around the doorways. They did have the rim that way for some and for some they did not do that at all. They butted the laminate right up to the edge of the trim and molded it in. We told them that they could even take the trim off to get it up next to the wall. Half of it was done and half of it was not done. It is things like this that they took so long. We waited and waited. As for the price we paid, I do not know the numbers. My husband would know exactly what we had to pay for and what the insurance covered. They were very professional in that they never lost their temper talking with us and always obliging to do what we requested. The follow up was bad. The owner of the company is very personable and nice individual. He seemed to listen but communication was getting lost between him and his workers. We probably not use him in the future.
