Now in Spring 2015, we decided to finish out all the windows in our house with Pella. Naturally,we would want the new windows to match the existing ones we bought in 2013 and paid $10,000 for. Apparently Pella does not get that! I used the same salesman (Roy), who was great. The problem started with the measure person - Tami. DO NOT LET TAMI IN YOUR HOUSE! For some reason, Tami decided to measure all our windows an inch or two smaller than the current size. This was for our two guest bedrooms and dining room (sliders) and for our kitchen above-sink window. I had asked for the SAME EXACT windows as we bought in 2013.
On May 15, we had the installers come. Since our previous job involved four plain windows, a bow window and a patio door, I thought three sliders and a kitchen window would not be a big deal for them. My husband was sick, so he was the one home for the install. The installers had questions, so they called in AWFUL TAMI! She was the one that ordered the windows too small. So she instructed them to build white frames around the windows so they would fit. This took extra time and more supplies. The crew worked all day and did not finish all three of the slider windows, because they didn't have enough of this white trim.
Keep in mind our other Pella windows have oak wood trim. The installers didn't finish, didn't even start the kitchen window and said someone would call us on Monday. No one ever called. On Tuesday, May 19 I emailed my sales rep, who immediately got someone to contact me. I then talked with Mario, who has no customer service skills. He came out to our house at lunch - necessitating us to take time off work to meet with him at our house. Mario told me I just didn't know what kind of windows I wanted, even though I clearly wanted THE SAME EXACT ONES I ALREADY OWN! He did his best to convince me I was wrong, but I insisted I wanted the product I had ordered.
Days passed, finally a new install date was set after I called and argued several times. it was set for June 12. The installers came again and quickly ripped out the windows I DID NOT ORDER and installed the new ones. This left a giant mess around my windows with chipped drywall and rough edges. They worked on the kitchen plant window, but didn't finish. This necessitated them having to come back on Saturday. They still did not 100% finish, so they came back during the following week to finish up.
Then we noticed one of the windows in the bedrooms had a poor quality - messed up sill. Once again, I had to ask Pella to come out and view this issue and replace another piece.
So all in all. . .with meeting with the sales rep, taking off work to have the install, meeting with Mario to get stuff fixed, I would say we wasted 26 hours of our time and vacation time to get this "simple" job done to our satisfaction. That does not include the hours my husband had to spend filling in chipped drywall, sanding and now buying paint to repaint the walls in our dining room and guest bedrooms because of the damage done by Pella.
I wouldn't allow TAMI FROM PELLA into my house to measure if I were you - Pella used to be a good quality product but has clearly gone downhill fast.

The $9,258 cost for seven windows includes $1,050 for staining and finishing the interior wood on the windows, $392 for matching new interior trim, and $665 for new brick molding. The windows were all installed by a contractor, primarily due to one of them being part of an insurance claim; however, Pella's sales guy, Ryan, assured me the contractor had great expertise in installing their windows and had installed "hundreds of them."
- Pro's:
- Overall, the windows look really nice both inside and out. They seem to do a really good job of sealing out temperatures, wind, and noise.
Having the windows and new interior trim wood pre-finished, although pricey, was well worthwhile as they did a very nice job. The new interior trim is almost a necessity, as it is slightly wider than the old trim and thus covers up any prior "trim lines" in the paint along the edges where the old trim was previously installed.
The two-point, single-handle lock on each window is a really nice feature. The windows are very easy to open and close, and to clean inside and out.
Con's:
I was disappointed by the quality of the milling on some of the wood on the interior of some of the window frames; it borders on being somewhat coarsely milled, with a rough-to-the-touch feel and appearance. For the grade of window, I expected better.
Almost every window had a smeared, globby "rim" of excess adhesive sealant quite visible around the entire edge of the glass - sometimes more than 1/8" wide. The display models in the show room certainly didn't look like that, and in my opinion that should have been taken care of before the windows were ever shipped from the factory.
When outside air temperatures are near or below freezing, the new bathroom window fogs up just as quickly and thoroughly when the shower is used as did the old one it replaced.
The window screens use a metal "quarter-of-a-pie" latch that rotates into a small slot in the window frame to lock the screen in place. The tips of the metal latches extend beyond the screen frame even when "retracted", and so it takes very great care when removing the screens to avoid scratching the window frames.
Ryan, the sales guy. was great right up until the windows were installed. After that, I called three times about some missing, tiny screws that hold the crank-handle cover on; he returned the first call promptly and told me he would mail them to me shortly, but never returned any subsequent calls when they failed to show up. The contractor finally made the trip down to pick them up.
And last, when the upstairs windows were being installed the contractor fellow doing so came down and told me he was going to lunch. When I went upstairs an hour or so later I found that, on a hot, very windy and dusty summer day, he had removed the double casement window - in the room that houses my computer, printers, and other electronic equipment - and left totally unprotected an almost four-foot square opening in my wall... for the 2 1/2 hours he was "at lunch." Also, almost every screw used to install the windows was put in a visible location, rather than around the periphery of the screen where they would have been unnoticeable. Quite obviously, these things were not Pella's fault; but had Ryan not given the contractor such a glowing recommendation, I might have handled things differently and had Pella install the windows.
