knew we had a problem with our fireplace shortly after the first winter freeze.
He noticed that we had a draft coming into through the fireplace and it was unbearable
to use our living room. The winter of 2013 was not too bad for the Omaha area
so we waited until spring to have someone come out and take a look at our fireplace.
We contacted the builder he recommended contact the folks that installed it. So
we called Fireplace Stone and Patio. To our surprise they wanted to charge
almost $100 dollars for someone to just come and take a look, so we opted not
to pay the fee and we found 3 other companies that specialized in fireplaces to
come and take a look at no cost. For the most part all contractors told us they
needed to look at the back of the fireplace to see what if anything was wrong
and some suggested that it could be an insulation issue. The winter of 2014 was
the same?.lots of cold air coming thru the fireplace and we decided to have fireplace
stone and patio finally come out and take a look. Again they said that it would
cost 89 dollars for a service call. The tech came in and said that it was an
insulation issue. He recommended getting a blower and letting the fireplace run
all day and all night. He also recommended installing a pilot light to keep the
firebox warm. We installed both the blower $120 and the pilot light switch for $149
and nothing changed. We then contacted the company, the installation manager
said it was not their issue to hire a contractor to open the siding and check
the insulation. So we did at a cost of $1,300 dollars. The checked the
insulation and inspected the box and sealed everything back up. They didn?t
notice anything wrong with the insulation. A day later we noticed the cold
again and the draft issue came back. We took infrared temperature reading and
they back of our fireplace was the same temp as the outside temp?a whooping 13
degrees. The stone around the fireplace
was 20 degrees warmer. I reach out to the manufacture (Heatilator) and they
told me that when there are draft issues it?s usually an installation issue. So
contact Fireplace Stone and patio again and spoke to the installation manager
on several occasions and they are refusing to take ownership of the issue and
they are refusing to work with me. They said they have pictures of their
install and they are not doing anything about it. I even sent them a picture of
the back of the fireplace, where it appears that exhaust pipe was not installed
correctly and nothing. It?s amazing from perspective how this company is now
willing to help. The builder is pointing
the finger at them since they installed it. The manufacture is saying that it
the installer and the pictures clearly show how the cold air is possibly coming
but nothing from them. I hope that my case is an isolated issue because I would
have for another family to be experiencing what I?m experiencing and for that
reason, I would caution buyers to beware and find a more reputable company for
your fireplace needs. I would stay clear
of this business since they obviously don?t care about customer satisfaction or
running a reputable business.
