chair was not done which was ok because I was not in a hurry
but then they called the next day to say it was done. Chair is
perfect!
The repairmen did not show up at the scheduled time and did not call. I had to contact the company and they arrived about two hours later. They replaced 3 screws on each of the two hinges and charged $140.00! I called the company to discuss the excessive bill (which my fiance paid after the repair), left a message for the owner and never received a return call.
This was a very minor repair which took no time at all and I feel we were completely taken advantage of. I'm not one to write reviews like this but our negative experience with this business was one that everyone who is considering hiring Don's Refinishing Service should be aware of.
"There was obviously a misunderstanding that occured. Our service call is $60.00 plus $80.00 per hour which includes all supplies and products needed plus NE labor tax. Our minimum is $149.80 including tax. We sent two technicians out to the home. We found the screws installed were not correct and that someone had tried to repair this door to a very large, very antique armoire before. We plugged the holes, put in larger screws and secured the door. We found the door did not close smoothly and was hitting at the bottom. This was do to the age of the piece and not why we were called out. But we informed his fiance of the problem and told her we would come back later the same afternoon and bring the correct saws and belt sanders and trim the door so it would close smoothly. We informed her of the cost and told her we would not charge any extra for the next trip as we were going to be in the area. We did make a second trip with two technicians and took the door off and out to the garage, trimmed it and reinstalled it again. It worked perfectly. I appologized for being late to the home. We tell every customer who calls exactly what are rates are and that if they want to save the service call they can certainly bring the items in to us at our shop. I'm sorry he feels we took advantage of him, but clearly I can't run around town with 2 technicians with over 60 years experience between them for $60.00. We run a very reputable business and are fair with everyone we encounter. This was as I said an obvious misunderstanding that occured during our initial phone conversation with him."
While he was here, he also repaired a small tear in a Stickley leather bench. You can't even see the repair. He also gave me advice about where to purchase replacement handles for my antique dining room furniture. If you have a need furniture repaired, you should call Don's Refinishing.
