Tash Sims, ckf, was referred by a trusted real estate professional. I contacted her and set an appointment to meet me at one of my rental properties yesterday at 1 pm to bid on granite countertops. She doesn't show or call (strike one!). Her card lists a phone number that doesn't have a voicemail (strike two!!). Two hours later, I call my referring friend, obtain her cell and she answers, says, "I was called in to my other job, sorry I didn't call," blah, blah, blah, then offers to "Meet today at 10:30 am." Again, no show or call as of 3 pm (strike three!!!). I own several investment properties and will never consider Tash Sims or ckf again. Side note: I don't normally take the time to post negative reviews...this is a first.

We are very disappointed in CKF. Everything leading up to the installation was good. They have a nice selection of quartz, and the sales person was friendly. So we were incredibly upset when returning home on installation day to find the place an absolute mess. There was caulk, dust and wood chips all over the place with no attempt to clean up after themselves.
Our walls were damaged to the point that we now have to hire somebody to repair them which will be hundreds of dollars that we were not expecting to pay. We have excessive pry marks, cuts in the drywall and pieces missing. We were told that some of the paint could chip when they removed the old countertop. This is not paint chipping?this is careless damage. We were not advised that the edge we selected would result in a gap between where the old countertop was and the new countertop, although they admit the sales person should have told us this in case we wanted to select a different edge.
Their craftsmanship is horrendous. CKF's policy is that you have to pay in full before they will perform the job, therefore there is no recourse for the customer if CKF messes up. They offered us a $50 gift card as a goodwill gesture for our trouble. Not good enough. Do not use this company!

"The concerns expressed here were shared with our company by both [Member Name Removed] and her husband Mark. Mark came in and met with our Brand Manager with his frustration with the mess that was made. We felt that the customers concerns had been addressed and CKF was not aware that the customer was still unhappy. Depending on the type of adhesive that is used when the original countertops/backslashes was installed, it can result in wall damage when trying to remove them. This feedback provides us an opportunity to remind our sales/design team the importance of discussing all phases of the cabinet and countertop process. The importance of leaving a clean job site will also be reiterated to our service technicians."

I called the CKF. CKF sent staff over to take pictures and told me that what I see is the natural characteristics of a store. I disagree because if these flakes are natural and the granite is sealed well why the flakes coming off are getting more and more and spread around. I don't think that any consumer would purchase such flakes-coming-off granite for the expansive price if s/he would know such problems starting three months later.
After 10 days, CKF sent a field manager over. He admitted that he did not see such problem before when I pointed the flakes to him. He took some pictures and would ask other experienced colleagues in the store to investigate them. He said that he would contact me next week but he did not.
After 10 days again, I called this field manager to follow up CKF's investigation. His attitude was quite cold and different. He said they had sent the result to the builder long time and I should have heard from the builder. I asked what CKF found out. He said that the problem I saw is the stone's natural characteristics. I know what natural grains of a granite are like because I had a granite in my previous home over 6 years I did not have such problem. I request that they explain the flakes coming off and why the affected area is expanding or have a 3rd party to verify that the granite is fine. I asked to talk with the supervisor or the higher but he refused. CKF insists that these affected areas are the natural characteristics of the stone every time so they will not replace it under the warrantee.
I am seriously concern about the quality of CKF's products and their services. I will never have the business with them because they provided me with the defect granite and lousy services.

"The countertops were installed in this home in July of 2014. In February of 2015, the customer expressed concerns with some of the granite as is shown in the pictures. Our Countertop Division Manager and another manager went to the customer's home to look at her countertops and explained the characteristics of granite. What she was experiencing was not uncommon to the particular granite she had chosen. The customer remained unsatisfied so CKF made the decision to replace her countertops. This work was completed in August of 2015. We received a call from the customer in October of 2015 concerning some caulking around her sink. Re-caulking of the sink was completed at that time and customer did not indicate any further concerns."

Installation of the countertops went well. They were an hour later than the communicated noon - 2 timeframe communicated. The mismeasured two pieces so we had to have them come back and install those on another day.
My sales person was very nice but was not the best at attention to the details of our communication. I would send emails and leave voice mails and finally hear back from her. Very frustrating.
My biggest displeasure with the experience was the poor office communication and responsiveness was not consistent.
The office personnel use terminology that a client like myself does not know. When I took off the demo quote from my bill they canceled "turnkey" which also included scribe installation but that was not communicated to me. When i was reviewing the final bill for installation i was go over everything for installation day including the scribe (which was not on the final bill so that took a day to get added). When the person in the office told me 5 sticks that literally meant 5 sticks of scribe and did not include installation. 5 sticks to them means material only. I spoke with three different people about the extra charge for installation and finally one said "it's not worth it to me" and agreed for them to pay for it. If i had been informed up front the installation price i would paid it but it was after i went through the list of installation items and paid in full. I advised them that when speaking with clients to speak in lay person terminology as we do not know what turnkey involved or that sticks means just material.

We visited the showroom on January 19th. Mandy was our salesperson and we spent about an hour with her. She appeared to be quite knowledgeable. We gave her a diagram of the kitchen and we left with a number of samples. She told us that we would receive an email bid on the 21st or 22nd. My husband called on the 23rd because we had not received the bid. She apologized and sent out the bid that afternoon. We responded the next day with a few questions and we indicated that we had narrowed our choices. We didn't receive a reply from Mandy, so my husband called on the 28th and asked to speak to the Sales Manger. He spoke to Michelle and explained the situation. She assured him that someone would be in touch by the end of business that day. It is now two days later and no one has contacted us! We are very disappointed because we were told that they have an excellent reputation. We understand that there are delays when working with contractors. The polite and professional thing to do is to communicate with the customer explaining the delay. Ignoring potential customers is not ok.
Response from Consolidated Kitchens & Fireplaces
"We are sorry to hear that we did not provide good communication with this customer. Waiting 11 days and making numerous phone calls to us to get some information would be frustrating for anyone. We are always looking for ways to improve our customer service and feedback like this helps us to do that."

IN ORDER TO GET THIS HUGE CABINET UP THE STAIRS - THE NEEDED TO UN-PACK AND REMOVE ALL THE SHELVES AND ROLL OUT SHELVES JUST TO REMOVE SOME WEIGHT..THEY PLACED CARDBOARD ON THE CARPET TO PROTECT IT AN DID NOT SCRATCH THE WALLS OR CABINETS.

We are extremely happy. We also had the dishwasher hook up to the disposal come loose after their work and our wood floors were damaged. They were fast and responsive in helping with clean up and taking care of repairs.

I liked them because it was a one stop palace and I did not have to go to a cabinet place or countertops. They were able to tell me what my kitchen was going to look like with measurements and how much washing space it was pretty good technology. I had a lot lower estimates, but I don't know if the quality would have been as good.

My experience was horrible. The gentleman, Bill, did not honor verbal after we'd find something. We had told him we wanted a certain color on our cabinets. The cabinets are beautiful but we had said we wanted a mocha color. Then somehow when he typed it up, he typed up autumn or something a completely different color. We didn't go over our colors, I just signed it. So when I find it, he said well I signed the contract, that's too bad. They delivered them to our house. We had to pay a different company to come and pick them up and then paint them the color that we wanted, stain them a different color and install them. So I was not impressed with Bill.
Response from Consolidated Kitchens & Fireplaces
"We know that choosing cabinets for your home is a big decision. It is regretful that the cabinets arrived with a color that was not to the customer's liking and that they felt our salesperson was not responsive to their concerns. There was some compensation provided to the customer as we acknowledged that they were not completely satisfied with their cabinet color. We work hard to make sure we provide great products and service to our customers. When we do not accomplish this, we try and come to a solution that is acceptable to the customer. Customer satisfaction is a high priority for CKF."

Excellent service. Timely, professional, done as-promised and on time. Excellent selection of granite. Loved being able to pick out the actual stone slabs. They also email a document showing the counter cutouts laid out on a photo of the slabs. Great showroom.

Was not really given a full picture of the cost of instillation cost.
Response from Consolidated Kitchens & Fireplaces
"We are glad to hear that this customer was satisfied with the countertops that were installed in her home. We do apologize that she feels she was not given a full picture of the cost to install her countertops The sales process at CKF begins with an estimate for material and labor based on the customer provided dimensions. If the customer does not have these measurements, CKF will provide a general cost to have work done, but will not provide an actual estimate until a digital template has been completed and accurate measurements have been determined. There can be small variations once the template has been completed and if this results in increased square footage and cost, the customer is notified of this before we begin the fabrication of the countertops. We strive to make sure our customers are aware of the full scope of the work to be completed to include accurate pricing. It is regretful that this customer feels we did not provide this to her."

We actually worked with Katie at their new countertop showroom. We really liked being able to see the different types available without being overwhelmed. The main showroom on J Street is beautiful, but too much to look at for us.
We took samples home, then after we made our choice, Katie took us to choose the actual pieces of granite that would be used.
Everything was very simple. No problems whatsoever. We would definitely work with them (and Katie) again!

They did a very good job. The countertop and tile selection process was very professional. They did an outstanding job in measuring correctly. The only problem we had was that the manufacturer had color defects in the first countertop that was delivered. CKF got this corrected quickly and at no additional expense to us. Their installation personnel were very courteous and professional. Overall, they were very good to work with and I would do business with them again.

With one exception, everything was done completely to our satisfaction. The sales person was extremely helpful, they took careful measurements, and installation of the countertop and backsplash went flawlessly. It's important to note that the countertop fabricators and, I believe, the countertop installers are CKF employees. We couldn't have been happier.
Installation of the hardwood floor went well and quickly--but only up to a point. These installers were subcontractors, and while they put in the flooring quickly and professionally, they did not finish the carpet interface between existing carpeting and the new floor. They said they don't do that, which the CKF manager confirmed later. Unfortunately, it then took CKF five days to get someone to do the finish work (another subcontractor), who left a red chalk line on the carpet that the floor installers had made. Bottom line--we got excellent final results, but with totally unnecessary delays. CKF knew the scope of the work including finishing the carpet-hardwood interface, so we do not understand why they assigned a subcontractor who doesn't do that. With the amount we paid, there was no reason they shouldn't have dealt with the subcontractor issue more quickly. That's why I downgraded them from an A to a B on professionalism.
Make sure to ask whether the installation will be done by their people or subcontractors, and if the latter, make sure that ALL parts of the installation including cleanup and any finish work will be taken care of promptly.

The work was done professionally. Everything from ordering the quartz from the showroom, to measuring and installation was done well. All personnel were courteous and friendly. The installers created much less mess than anticipated and always cleaned up well. The work was done in a timely manner. We are happy that we chose CKF to do this remodel.

Fireplaces do not put out much of a gas flame. No help when contacted CKF - stated that's a Heatilator for you.- Cabinets are OK - not to be confused with custom. This place is basically your contractor's best friend - low bids and low quality.
Response from Consolidated Kitchens & Fireplaces
"Sorry to see your comments but I wanted to add some clarity-- Fireplaces: In the “Fireplace Industry” we are not allowed to perform service work on manufacturer units that we are not authorized to sell. Repair parts are proprietary to the manufacturer and the units they produce. At the time your home was built, you must have chosen a Heatilator fireplace of which we are not authorized to sell or service. Cabinetry: At CKF we provide all levels of cabinetry that vary in quality and price. This range of product allows us to provide cabinetry in homes ranging from entry level homes to million dollar homes. Based on the comments made by the member, it appears the quality of product chosen did not meet his expectations. Based on the information provided and the length of time since the building of his home, we are not sure whether the member directly chose the cabinetry personally or if the home builder/designer chose the cabinetry for him. I am sorry to hear that the fireplace and cabinetry selected are not meeting your expectations. I do want everyone to realize that at CKF we do provide a wide variety of cabinetry----fitting budgets of all customer ranges and also providing styles from contemporary to traditional. Hope you can visit our showroom to see what we have to offer."

poorly-did not have available ist several choices of color, then sink choices unavailavble too. Cracked/broke the counter(twice!) and had to re-do it. Bashed a hole in my drywall. It does look nice now, after all that pain.

We spent a lot of time researching countertop options before deciding on Brazilian brushed granite for our kitchen. Initially we were going to go with Cambria quartz (for which CKF apparently is the local distributor), but then switched to the brushed granite from another source when we decided we didn't want to live with the reflected glare (from sunlight and our undercabinet lights) that would accompany a smooth-surface top. The process from start to finish went very smoothly. We first visited with a showroom salesperson who explained the products and options, looked at our blueprints and gave us an estimate. The next step involved a technical services individual who came to our home to scope out the work, find the "gotchas" (ours is a custom home), and take digital photos which were then pumped into a software program to yield precise measurements and guidelines for fabrication. From there, we were emailed for approval a CAD (a pdf file of the countertop layout) and then the Synergies (digital photo representations of exactly how our countertop pieces would look). Very cool. It's important to note that while there are numerous countertop fabricators in the area (and most that we dealt with were in the same neighborhood pricewise), the competitive advantage that CKF offers is that they perform ALL the work themselves (either through employees or sub-contractors they schedule). This meant: (1) We didn't have to deal with scheduling plumbers, carpenters, etc., ourselves; (2) We didn't have to worry about something going wrong and having fingers being pointed in all directions, and (3) The job was completed in the shortest time possible. It's fair to point out that there was one bump in the proceedings when we discovered an extra (and unwanted) seam was included in the CAD, but we were able to resolve this issue to our satisfaction with no delay in the process. Suffice it to say, constant communication and oversight are key ingredients in ensuring projects like this go smoothly. Of course, all of this advance work matters not if the fabrication and installation processes go poorly. And happily, these are areas where CKF truly shines. The personnel who did the actual delivery and installation work were all top notch. The professionalism, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the desire to go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction all exceeded our expectations. If you want to spend the time and energy, you can probably find someone who will fabricate and install your countertops for less. But for us, price was a secondary consideration when compared to reputation, competence, accountability and convenience. A few dollars saved today won't mean much down the road if you're unhappy with your countertops. And make no mistake, we LOVE our new countertops and are certain we'll love them 5-10 years from now. CKF has our highest recommendation.

The fireplace was purchased and installed from this company-it is 12 years old. Perhaps it's time for a new one. I asked them that and was told I did not need a new one.... but don't leave me hanging.
Response from Consolidated Kitchens & Fireplaces
"In response to her comments about the performance of CKF----We initially went out on April 3rd to review the problem of the fireplace not lighting. It was determined a new pilot assembly was required on this 12 year old fireplace which is not uncommon. Unfortunately, Majestic filed for bankruptcy so obtaining parts on a timely basis became very difficult. This was communicated to her. We replaced the assembly on 8/21 and the fireplace was functioning properly after we left. We then rec'd a phone call in Nov. indicating the unit was not working again. Technician went out and found the thermocouple was loose at the valve. Tightened thermocouple and fireplace was running after service call. Early December we rec'd another phone call and responded to house. This was after a severe snow / ice storm which was the worst in over 15 years in our area. Her fireplace was not working due to an ice jam on the outside termination which caused limited air intake for the unit to burn. Our technician melted the ice build up and again the fireplace was working fine after we left. Finally, in late December we had another severe snow storm and the fireplace stopped working again. She then became frustrated and filed this complaint. I did find out that another service company went out to her home and determined it was another air intake problem at the termination on the outside of the house very similar to what we dealt with on the previous service call. I know this was frustrating for her but from a company performance standpoint I don't know what we could have done differently. We apologize for the inconvenience but some things just can't be avoided."
