$14,000
I contacted American Rooter plumbing because we had our shower and bathroom sink faucet would not stop dripping, like non-stop dripping. They came by and did a full evaluation of the home and found we needed: - A new shower and bathtub (which we planned on eventually doing anyway) - new sink faucets - emergency stops for all sinks in the house - a new main line stop since it was rusted over - complete repair of our outdoor water line stop - and a few parts here and there. We just moved in this house and knew that there would be a lot to fix so, begrudgingly we agreed. It came to a whopping total of almost $14,000 for everything. The first day they have to do stuff it goes fine, water heater is installed, stops put in goes well, then comes the day of the new tub, sink, etc. And I could not be more disappointed. First and most importantly, they just left the wall completely exposed! There are just parts of the drywall missing so the inside of the house is exposed (pictures included) and when I contacted them they said that "their job is done, so they aren't coming back". They never once told me that I would have to hire a drywall person to finish their job for them. They told me that once they were done it would be installed, ready to use and clean, it was anything but and they won't do anything about it except tell me to get an inspector and a dry wall person. Wish they told me that before going through with the project, not after. Speaking of clean, however, it was anything but. The tub was a mess, they left drywall bits all over the floor in the hall and bathroom and put all of our bathroom items in the hall and doorway so there was nowhere to walk and I had to clean up the debris. So it was anything but "cleaner than we started". Finally, they just cause more issues for some reason? The new shower starting part is not flush against the wall so water is just going to get inside of it and cause it to rust, they took our towel rod down for some reason and didn't put it back up, they turned off our water heater and didn't turn it back on, so we didn't have hot water for four hours and didn't know why, and finally, they left almost all the doors open and lights on. This is especially bad because I have 3 cats that do not need to be getting out or in places they aren't supposed to, they could also get sick from eating dry wall. Most importantly, I also have an 18 month old that could be doing the exact same! I am extremely dissatisfied, I have to pay even MORE money on top of the 14,000 and I just don't know what I'm paying for now. My house is dirtier, more broken, and more dangerous than it was before they got here. Don't get American Rooter.
Response from American Rooter Plumbing
"Hi [Member Information Removed] thank you for taking time to address your concerns. While we did a lot of work at your home: replace whole home valves, water heater, new tub, new faucets - it seems that your frustrations fall in the misunderstanding that we do not repair drywall. I apologize for any miscommunication there. We are plumbers and work on plumbing only. It is good to hear that all of your plumbing is working smoothly. Again, we apologize for any miscommunication."

Great! It was easy to set up a convenient service call and they sent out Alex and James who are both courteous and friendly. Alex is very competent and takes time to explain the problem, the solution, the estimate and answers any questions thoroughly. They went to work and quickly got the problem fixed. I will definitely call American Rooter the next time I have plumbing problems.

I cannot give kudos enough to Bradd Conn and his team at American Rooter. I gave them a challenging situation with a 50 year old house that fought them every step of the way. We ended up pulling a seamless pipe from the sewer in the street to my house in miserable weather. Bradd and his team spent 12 hours on Saturday finishing up the job in single digit temps before the record low hit. His team was polite and explained all options every step of the way. They never hesitated to answer all my questions. If you want a top notch job at a competitive price with great customer service I recommend them without any reservations.

Initial call, communication and plumber all professional. He arrived on time, introduced himself with a card. He went to the main bathroom to assess it and looked at the other two bathrooms as well. Asked questions about the plumbing, how old the main toilet was. He did not flush the toilet though. This would have been key more than anything. He came back to me with some options, telling me he knew where the clog was after running water in the sink. The least expensive option he offered was $361! I told him I would need to look around. I was charged a $49 trip fee. He left and I immediately called another plumbing company and explained the situation. She had a plumber out to me in 20 minutes. He went to the main toilet and started flushing it. He flushed it about 6 times and told me whatever was causing the toilet to flush slowly must have cleared out, more than likely from too much toilet paper from our children. He recommended using 1-2 ply toilet paper going forward. He told me he wasn't going to charge me for flushing the toilet. Bottom line, I feel that American Rooter was trying to take advantage of us by offering to perform a very expensive service that was not needed. When I asked the plumber why it was so expensive, he said this was a national average competitive price. When looking this up, this was not the case. In fact, the plumbing company that came after American Rooter ,only charges $190 for 2 hours of the same work (but they were offering a coupon rate of $169 for 2 hours or less if it took under 2 hours). I was happy we didn't have to pay any more money. I wasted $49 with American Footer and to think they wanted to charge $361 for work that wasn't necessary is repulsive. Extremely disappointed in this company. I am rating the overall experience an F for this reason.

Ended up using someone else. Charged $49.00 service call. That was fine. Then seemed more interested in selling a service plan than snaking the drain. Just to snake the drain was almost as much as the service plan anyway--about $275.00

They did a good job but they were a little pricey. They did fine work so I'd give them an A for the work but B or C for the cost. They were there when they said they would be there. The guy was a little unkempt. I would use them but probably not to do the sink because they were too expensive.

Through a series of questions and troubleshooting he was able to determine that my water heater was leaking and needed to be replaced.  He informed me that he had one on the truck and that it would take approximately three hours to remove and replace the old heater.  After realizing he did not have the correct water heater on his truck he called another employee to deliver another heater.  He was still able to get all of his work done, including cleaning up in less than his estimated time.
He was extremely thorough and professional and exceeded all of my expectations.
