When we moved into our house we chose this garbage collection company at random. It went fine for about 6 months, then one week they just didn't pick up our garbage. Pickup day is on Fridays, so we always put our can out on Thursday night. My wife was in the garage waiting to back the car out and watched the truck pass by our house, so she caught up to them and asked if they could go back and get our trash. The truck driver acknowledged that he would return to our house, then drove out of the neighborhood laughing. When my wife called their office, the lady who answered began to chastise my wife for not having the can out on time (not that there is a designated time, they can come any time of day). When my wife advised her that it had been out since Thursday night, she said they "would try" but couldn't make any guarantees. We have 2 kids, this thing is full in a week, so my wife told her they could pick it up that day or cancel us and we'd go elsewhere. They picked it up around 4:30 pm, so we were satisfied, but their drivers are obviously not concerned with being professional. Things were again fine, until today. We recently requested separate bins for recyclables, and put those out today. I guess they have a different truck that picks these up, and ours was not picked up. No big deal, this is the first time we put it out and it's just an oversight. Unfortunately when I attempted to call them, the person answering the phones would answer the call then hang up without saying anything. I called 5 or 6 times, then I realized, it was 4:45 pm. They close at 5pm. I stubbornly continued calling 10 more times, until 5 pm, getting angrier and angrier each time as the person lifted the phone and dropped it back on the hook, since they couldn't be bothered answering a call so near quitting time. What do they have 14-year olds working there? It is unbelievable that a business would permit such conduct when they, ostensibly, are making their living providing this service. Once I can get them on the phone next week, I will let them know that they can pick up their equipment. I will not pay them another dime. Additionally I will make sure all my coworkers (at Offutt AFB) know about this, so they can make an informed decision when choosing a provider. Garbage collection is a pretty basic thing that you don't think about usually, but when it goes wrong, it poses a BIG problem. We live in the city, it's not like you can burn the stuff!
