Thompson's Honey Do List

I had seen one other job he had done and it seemed professional. We filled out an agreement for him to put a new roof on my house. He told me to pick my shingles. Everything was written into the contract. The day he was suppose to start he showed up at 11 and decided there was too much frost on the roof and headed home for the day. Progressively throughout a two week span him and his hired buddy (who apparently was the only one of the two that knew anything about roofing) got my roof done, and it looked nice. However, when I went to tear out the plaster upstairs to repair the moisture damage from the old shingles, I noticed that around the board they had used to replace the old rotten board, there were cracks and I could see blue sky and gaps where they had not used flashing. One gap around the dormer is large enough to stick four fingers through! I contacted him, and let him know and at first he was cordial. He came over and squeezed some roofing tar into the gap and took off. When I called him back to let him know that this was not acceptable he said he'd get his roofing buddy and head over the following week to remove shingles and seal up any gaps and replace flashing as needed. That was the last time I have heard from him. He will no longer answer my calls or return my messages. I am now forced to contract this work elsewhere and sue him to remedy his sub-par work. I wish I would have just paid extra for a real professional. Avoid this guy at all costs!
