Apple Roofing
About us
Apple Roofing is commited to providing the highest quality in our work and materials. We have four estimators on staff. All of us have many years experience in the field. We charge nothing to come out and provide you with an estimate. You will not be billed for anything unless you agree that our company is the best fit for you! We are friendly, respectful and do not pressure anyone. We generally require 1/2 down before beginning a project. We understand that one of the most common frustrations today are contractors that don't call you back. We will respond to everyone in a timely manner! A fun event we help to sponsor: We are sponsoring the annual Beat Breast Cancer volleyball tournament.

Unfortunately, insurance did not cover the cost of the roof, so he adjusted his estimate *way* down. Insurance will pay a lot more to replace a roof than it costs, so roofers like to do roofs that are covered by insurance. It pays more. If insurance is covering it, you don't need to tell them unless the insurance pays the company directly. Keep the difference yourself, after all, you're the one that's been paying for insurance. They clearly can do the same work for a lot less (as was evidenced by the revised estimate, no change in materials/labor, just cost). This is the same with car repair companies, as I learned this past year. The cost of repairs will magically match the amount offered to you by your insurance.
But Apple impressed me more than the rest of the roofers, some of whom didn't even bother with follow up phone calls (or even provide a bid), so I signed the contract in July and I wrote a check for 1/2 the cost of the roof. For two months we waited (they said they'd be about 3-4 weeks or so out), but with all the storm damage this summer all over the area, I wasn't surprised that it took longer. In late August, I got tired of waiting and not having an update.
I contacted the company and asked when they would be doing my roof and within a day I had a return phone call. They said it would be a little while yet, but that they also worked on Saturdays. On a Friday, I got a call saying they were on their way. It was frustrating because I asked for a day's notice so I could bring my dog to work (so she wouldn't freak out). They apologized. My husband came home and got her, but it ended up raining all day--so they couldn't do the work. He suggested Saturday and I agreed. We were out of town, but when we came home, we had a nice new roof.
To their credit, they did not cash the check until they ordered supplies for our job. They did not crush any bushes, plants, and even the grass had very little signs of trampling. I found one nail on the porch after our recent rain and a few very small pieces of debris, but Kipp had come back for a final inspection and did final cleanup within a week of the roof being put on. While here, I told him that we still had leaking around our chimney flashing and that the roofers put the satellite dish back on!
He caulked around the chimney (it still leaks a bit) but still hasn't taken off the satellite dish. It has only been a couple weeks. They have not sent me a final bill, and I assume they will not until the satellite dish is off. Kipp promised to come back until the leak stopped--although he did admit (and it is true) that sometimes leaks can be pesky things. It leaked before they re-roofed it, and it still leaks. I should say it drips down between the wall and chimney and leaves about a 4-6and quot; water mark after a hard rain (like we had recently).
Kipp is very friendly, professional, answers questions, but he is not the scheduler and not responsible for when the roof work will be scheduled (like most contractors). He was great with follow-up, so far. As soon as that satellite dish is gone, I will be happy. :-)
Two or three weeks after I agreed to have them replace the roofing, they sent out a group of four or five Mexicans, one of whom spoke English. They didn't talk to me much and didn't ask any questions. Brian had told me that the roof would be put up in one day, which surprised me. However, it took three days. They came late in the morning the first day, so I knew it would take at least two days. There was no final inspection, and the special drip edge was not installed. Brian had no recollection of the drip edge and said there would be an additional charge of $600 due to multiple layers. I refusted to pay this, since he gave me a fixed quote. He became beligerent, so I told him to leave my property. He refused to leave and called his boss, so I talked to him, too. He was anxious to get the payment, so accepted the original quote amount, which I paid immediately.
I have now discovered damages to some of the edging on my roof, none of which was mentioned by either the crew foreman or Brian.
REBUTTAL TO COMPANY RESPONSE: This note is in response to Mr. Biegler’s final comments;
1. “This home was in terrible disrepair.” I gave the salesman a thorough tour of the hose, so it he had access to all of the damage. In fact, I had urged him to go up on the roof and make the tests that he needed to determine the extent of the damage and the parts required to fix it. However he refused and simply ordered enough decking to cover the entire house. He billed me for those parts in the beginning and said that I would get a refund on the parts not used. That didn’t happen. 2. He states that “nearly $1,000 was given off his bill. This is the first I have heard 0f his. It certainly is not shown in the contract/proposal that I signed.
3. He does not mention that I had urged the salesman, not once but several times to go up on the roof and make whatever tests necessary to make sure that the cost would be in line with his quote, since I wanted a fixed quote for the job. He refused. Thank you for the opportunity to express my disdain and disgust with this slick operator who avoid his responsibilities an provides sub-standard workmanship.
"Here at Apple Roofing we strive to make every customer happy. I personally went to the member's home when he had an issue and was there during the course of the job. We did take longer than expected during this job due to rain, and because there were multiple unforeseen layers underneath the existing roof. I determined whilst there that by 'special drip edge' Weldon actually wanted what we refer to as "soffit" and "fascia" around his home. This was in no way a part of our bid and wasn't listed anywhere on it. I personally did another final inspection after Brian, so there were actually not one, but two final inspections done. Unfortunately, sometimes we are unable to see all the layers on the roof before tearing into it. Brian suspected there may be additional layers, and stated on the contract the price that would be charged if indeed additional layers were found after discussing it with the husband. Brian also discussed payment terms with him which he did not abide by. As an effort to get paid, Apple Roofing forgave him owed monies on the additional layers which were spelled out in the contract. Now he is attempting to receive free soffit and fascia, and unfortunately we cannot provide him with this service and product for no charge. We did install new drip edge as agreed and I am attaching photos to show this. Background: This home was in terrible disrepair prior to Apple Roofing putting the roof on. There were leaks everywhere and containers all around the home to catch water. I have photos to verify this I will include. The member attempted to explain to me that water was rushing into his home through the fascia board. As a professional, I try to keep an open mind, but the leak he was describing just wasn't plausible. He showed me the container he told me he had emptied three times the night before because it kept filling up. I am going to include a photograph of this container I took because not only Was there a ring around it where water had been setting for quite some time, but there were spider webs in it and attaching it to the wall. It had not been touched in quite a while. I hate to call into question his character, but the facts and photos/documentation speak for themselves. I appreciate Angie's List trying to provide a resolution, please let us know if there is any plausible way to make this customer happy."
look and gave an estimate. A weather front was on it's way with rain
and snow, so he covered up the area with a tarp. After the snow he came
out and cleaned off the area. When the weather cleared up and the roof
was more accessible, Brian came out and got finished in a day. He came back the next day to make sure all nails and stuff were cleaned up. We're very happy with the effort given for just a skylight repair and when the roof needs replacing we will call these guys.
