We were leaving for vacation and needed a temporary patch to protect our home until we returned and had a permanent roof installed. The provider estimated the job at $250 but charged $400. The amount would be deductible from the permanent roof. He pushed for a same day check. The provider and his assistant showed up on a Monday afternoon without all of the materials they needed to complete the job. They asked me for duct tape and wood slats to secure the tarp.

We had minor leaking following the patch and called the provider. Although he promised to return and fix the problem, he never showed.

Hi estimate on a permanent roof was higher than a nearby well-established roofer, and he could not provide financing.

I contacted them in October, an examination and estimate was performed. Due to weather, work was postponed to spring. When weather permitted, the work was done. It is raining, there are no leaks.

They did a fairly good job and cleaned up pretty well although I found quite a few leftover nails in the yard and rolls of nail gun reloads in the gutter. I also had a residual leak around the chimney due to the flashing not being put back properly and sealed. I repaired it myself rather than mess around.

Pros: They arrived on time - performed 98% of the work in one day - and did a very good job of picking up nails and used shingles. Cons: A large skylight was removed during the job - much debris fell through the open hole; owners did respond quickly when called about the mess. After job completed, we noticed flashing had been pried up around windows and some damage to interior ceiling when skylight was reinstalled. Also, skylight did not appear to be properly seated. Owners responded in a reasonable amount of time for the flashing and had a contractor do the ceiling repair. The first time it rained, there were 3 leaks around the skylight. Owner responded 2 days later and said skylight not leaking, but roof around the skylight was leaking. He spent several hours working on the roof. The next rain the area around the skylight leaked again (but not as much); the owner came and worked on the roof again. The next rain was a severe thunderstorm and buckets had to be used to catch the water pouring in from the skylight. It took a few days for the owners to come and inspect the roof. Then they left without saying anything to us - this was disturbing since heavy rain was in the forecast. I called the next day to ask what was happening, and was told the skylight was broken and that I would need to contact Mr. Jensen. I left a message for him to call. Three days later we called our home insurance agent to see if he could expedite a return call from Mr. Jensen because if the skylight wasn't fixed we needed to get someone to cover it up. Mr. Jensen did call with the news that the skylight was cracked and needed to be replaced. He would get us a new skylight at cost and not charge for the installation. We agreed (rain was forecast for the next 5 days) and the install was completed the same day. The new skylight has not leaked. We believe that the roofers actually broke the skylight and we should not have had to pay for a new one- it was 4 years old and had never leaked until they removed it. Also, 3 bundles of delivered shingles were not used. I requested a refund on this but was ignored.

On Jan. 18, 2010 I called D and J Home Improvement - whom I located at AngiesList - for a leak in my kitchen ceiling. They were incredibly prompt, showing up at exactly noon when they said they would. They were very courteous, and good about diagnosing the situation. When it was determined that it was only condensation and nothing could be done, I wasn't even charged. This after two trips onto the roof and one into the attic.

They cleaned the debris each day and all the employees were American. They charged for only their cost of the skylight, installed it for free (it only took 5-10 minutes). The start of the job was delayed by rain and was delayed during the job with rain, but after starting the job and deducting the rain delays, the job was complete in the 3 days we were promised. They are a small company but very professional - I would use them again. They give a 5 year warranty on the workmanship and the manufacturer provides thier warranty for 30 years. The price was exactly what was quoted, they finished the day before the first snow of the year. I gave them an extra $100 for a job well done,

D.J. runs its own roofing installation crews and most importantly did not sub out our install. Our on-site communication with Jeff and his crew was seamless as they were all native English speakers (not normal to find in the roofing business today). Tear-off and install was completed in a timely fashion and site clean up was done at the end of every day. Upon tear-off, suspect roof decking was discovered and replaced. Additional metal flashing was added in problem areas around the dormer connections with the roof decking. All a sign of the customer-appreciated quality of work performed by Jeff and his crew. The quality of their workmanship, professionalism and flexibility in dealing with a most demanding homeowner made us very satisfied. We feel we received a quality product for a fair and equitable price. Dealing with this company was nothing but a pleasure from start to finish. D.J. Home Improvement comes highly recommended!

DJ Home Improvement was chosen by me, after I spent some time searching for companies to do the roof. We wanted it to get done before the fall and we were ready for it to be done ASAP. DJ's had no problem getting us scheduled very quickly and the price was definitely right. They left no unsightly mess that we had to clean ourselves. All of the guys who worked on the project were kind and courteous to me and my wife. The quality of there work was outstanding and we are sure glad the roof is finally done. Now we just wait for the final bill.
