They sent out a person to do this work and shortly afterwards they called back to say the worker turned off the gas to 11 of the 12 furnaces as he determined they were unfit for service (I was surprised as the two Pinnacle persons who had looked over the furnace units previously had not given me any indication of any serious problems). They said those 11 furnaces had to be replaced and the cost was approximately $2,300.00 per unit. What a shock!!
I didn't have a choice at that point, but to have them replaced.
I feel they handled the whole situation poorly, by not identifying the problems initially, then putting me in a position to have to purchase 11 new furnace units. What a bait and switch.
The inspector I used to initially identify any problems is very good and I have used him four or five times previously and he does a very through job of looking everything over and checking things out. So what Pinnacle said were furnace problems that merited turning off the gas to each unit was way beyond what the home inspector identified were issues.
Overall I give a very poor rating to Pinnacle Heating and Cooling.
The tech was extremely thorough in inspecting my system (i.e., opening up the ductwork to look at the A-coil), far more so than anyone else has ever been; and that, in my estimate, more than made up for his tardiness. He seemed very knowledgeable and was quite professional.
I would not hesitate to use them again, or to recommend them to others.
My furnace is working fine to this day.
Had a $29 Groupon A/C tune up. Justin arrived on time and did the scheduled tune up. Said everything was great, freon was half a pound low but did not recommend filling it up at the time since they would have to charge us for an entire pound. Said price of refill was approx. $100 on top of the A/C check. Overall though everything great. Six hours later my A/C was broken and not working when it was 100 degrees outside. Called Justin at home on his cell phone, came over within 30 minutes. Took one look at my system and said I needed a new capacitor as the old one had burst. Total price to change out the capacitor, $214 (for a $20 part), but he gave me a $30 coupon to bring the cost down. Fixed it within five minutes and was back up and running. However he said that due to the capacitor not working and the system trying to start that afternoon it had caused permanent damage to my compressor and where six hours prior it had been pulling 14 amps it was now pulling over 21 amps (max of 24 on my system) which signaled major damage and I should expect this to only last until probably the end of summer, maybe next year at the outside. I should start saving for a new system, cost approx. $3000-4000! So my A/C tune up that morning had said everything was fine, six hours later after spending $200 more dollars I was prepping to spend up to $4000 more! Why had it broken immediately after they checked it??? Justin couldn’t explain it, except that it was very hot and that capacitors are like light bulbs, they work one minute and the next minute they don’t… Not sure what the point of a tune up is then if that’s the case.
I called the owner (Marc) the following Monday to voice my concerns... He was very polite and apologized for the tech scaring us about needing a new system. Said he understood and would have one of his guys come out that evening to check our system out again. Had a different tech come out that evening and tested everything, unfortunately I was not there. He spoke to my wife and then I called him later on after I got home from work for an explanation of everything. He was also extremely friendly and spoke with me for close to half an hour. Was told that it was only pulling 17 amps when he checked it and everything was just fine. No problems whatsoever. He apologized for the first tech who was supposedly "newer" and essentially said he was incorrect in his diagnosis. Couldn't really explain the high amp draw differential except to say it was very hot before which must have caused it even though the temperature wasn't much different or it could have been because it wasn’t running long enough. Said that he would personally come out the next day at 1:30 to add freon to our system (charge us for the full pound, approx $35) but wouldn't charge us for the service call to do it as that was essentiall to keeping our system running. I agreed.
Next day my wife received a call from the company wanting to "schedule" a time at a later date for someone to come out and add freon to our system since the tech couldn't do it that day. After all this my wife and I had essentially had our fill. My wife called Marc again who was very polite on the phone and agreed not to charge us at all for the capacitor that we had spent $200 for and essentially severed our ties.
After all this I called another HVAC Company, Apollo, to come out and check out my system. I wanted a second opinion. For $100 they did a full A/C check and refilled my freon (only charging me for half a pound). Also told me the amps were pulling extremely high (24 amps) and the compressor was having problems starting... Essentially I need a new system. So it seems the first guy from Pinnacle who was newer was actually correct in his assessment. I need a new A/C now. Makes me wonder why there was such a huge disconnect between the first tech and the second tech from the same company. Did they not want to admit that something happened within a few hours of their checkup saying everything was great or did their two techs really have that wildly different of results? I somehow doubt they did but I’m not an A/C tech. Yes, they comp'ed me the capacitor which was the least I would expect, but I still need to spend $3k-4k for an entire new system that broke six hours after their tune up. So, after all this would I use Pinnacle again? No I would not and I'm currently getting quotes from other companies for an entire new system. Probably won't be using a Groupon again for something like this either...
It has been two years since installation. We still couldn't be happier with the performance of the new system and the service provided. You'll find a big price difference between the local independant dealers and the dealers associated with franchises. No high pressure with Pinnacle and honest product model description, quality and price provided up-front.
