Let me just first say that I would rate this company excellent except for how poorly I was treated by the owner, Pat, after reporting a problem with the job. Their prices are fair but if you have a problem you will meet resistance from the start and an owner who has very little concern for customer satisfaction, if your experience is similar to mine. I had two companies provide quotes for the job: The first company came in at $500 while Midwest Mudjacking quoted $225. The receptionist Stephanie who scheduled the quote was very nice and professional. Someone came out a couple of days later and provided a bid that was well done, complete with a scale drawing on graph paper depicting the work to be completed and the cost. After accepting the bid, the receptionist called me the day before the work was to begin to let me know that their crew was coming out. The crew arrived as promised, but I was unaware they were there until after the work was already well underway. They did not come to the door to knock or confirm the work to be done prior to starting. Upon completion, a member of the crew came to the door with the bill and said that I could mail in a check or pay now. As he was preparing to leave, I asked if there were any issues I needed to be aware of. He stated that one of the panels was cracked during the process and showed me the damage - it is important to note that he did not inform me that one of the panels was cracked during the process on his own. I asked if there would be a discount due to the crack and was told that I would need to speak to someone in the office. A short time later, while walking by the garage I heard the alarm going off on our invisible fence system. An inspection revealed that the crew had used a saw to separate the sidewalk panels and had cut approximately 6-10 inches past the sidewalk, into the lawn, and into the concrete of our driveway, severing the buried invisible fence line in the process. The four inch cut into the driveway concrete was not repaired by the crew before they left. I called Midwest Mudjacking's office, spoke to Stephanie, and described the cracked panel and the damage to our invisible fence system. She said that she would have the owner Pat give me a call when he was available. Pat called the next morning and immediately took on a defensive tone when I explained that our invisible fence line had been cut and that a concrete panel had been cracked. He stated that, as stated in the contract, he was not responsible for any damage to electrical lines buried nearby and that cracks to concrete happen sometimes during the process. He never asked what I expected as far as a discount but immediately went of the defensive, raising his voice and claiming that I was trying to "rewrite the contract," despite the fact that I never once was given the opportunity to say what kind of discount I felt would be fair. He said that he would take the total of $225, divide it by six, for the number of panels that were raised, and provide a discount of half of this - $18.75. I told him that it was going to cost me nearly $100 to fix the invisible fence line that his crew cut (the Invisible Fence Company quoted me $93 to splice the cut). He explained angrily that the crew had to use a saw to cut the panels and can't stop the saw at the edge of the sidewalk because of the blade's circular shape. In reality a circular saw can be used to cut to an edge as long as the saw is pressed down far enough so that the full diameter of the blade is cutting the concrete instead of just the bottom portion. Apparently, the crew just used the bottom portion of the blade to cut the concrete and allowed the rest of the blade to cut into my lawn, through the invisible fence line, and into the concrete of my driveway. When I stated that I was also surprised that the crew that arrived did not include the person who had provided the quote, and that the two-man team looked like they were less than 20 years old, he angrily accused me of "judging a book by its cover" and said that the crew was very well experienced and had been doing mudjacking work for over seven years. So Pat, the owner, ended up yelling at me because of my concerns regarding damage to my property despite his "well-experienced" team not announcing their arrival, not confirming what was to be done, nor asking about any owner concerns prior to beginning the job. In addition they did not use a circular saw properly and cut into my lawn and driveway, severing a buried invisible fence line in the process. And, finally, this experienced team did not take the proactive step to point out that a panel had been cracked in the process before giving me the bill. For all of this, I was yelled at and ultimately hung up on with an angry "Whatever pal, have a nice day" without once being able to state what I felt would have been a fair discount. Just a final word of warning, if anything goes wrong and your experience is like mine, you can expect immediate pushback and an owner who will jump behind the "Midwest Mudjacking Inc. is not responsible for damage to plumbing or electrical, cracks in floors or walls or any damage which has occurred or might occur as a result of the mudjacking process" clause in the contract instead of taking the time to listen to and try to come to an agreement regarding customer concerns.
