Funeral Homes
$8,000
Prior to my mom's passing, she had requested that we use Fox Funeral Home for her funeral.  So when I contacted them, one of the funeral directors, Arvid Weist, gave me some information.  When I asked if they accepted payments, he said yes, paused, then continued with "however we're not a bank".....my jaw about dropped to the floor.  He could've replied "yes, however, we'd like the balance paid off within one year" or something along those lines.....I'm quite aware that they are NOT a bank, but not everyone can come up with $8,000 in a short period of time.
After my mom's passing, we met with the same funeral director to plan the funeral.  My mom was overweight, so right away, he tried to sell us a "wide-body" casket.  We ended up purchasing a regular width casket and she fit in it just fine.  My sister asked again during our family consultation, if payments could be made, and again, he made the comment about their funeral home not being a bank.
At the funeral, before the service, the family was in a seperate area for a prayer service, etc. and Mr. Weist was explaining to the pallbearers their duties.  When he mentioned there was a vehicle for them to drive to the cemetery, he told them that one of them would have to drive the car and that he had checked the odometer!  What did he think they were going to do?  Go for a joy ride!  I couldn't believe my ears.
At the cemetery, my sisters and I were seated in front by the casket and Mr. Weist came up to us and explained to us that we would need to do our family "meet and greet" back at the church during the luncheon because the vault company had another appointment immediately after our mom's funeral.  Again, I was in shock.  I couldn't believe that they were rushing us out of the way to get what they needed to get done so they could move on to the next one.  We should've been allowed to properly grieve and say our good-byes as we saw fit.
I later learned, from a family member who saw it first-hand, that the vault lid was damaged.  We have not received a bill yet, but it better include a discount for the damage!
