This was the most amateur group of movers I've ever seen. There were items they'd agreed to move, and then they got there and said they didn't want to move since they were afraid of breaking them. We ended up paying these guys to move us plus calling in favors from friends to come move all the things these guys wouldn't. My husband used to be a professional mover and truck driver, so items were appropriately represented to the company up front and properly wrapped when they arrived.
The worst part of this move was how they handled our couch. When the moving crew first got to our apartment, I explained that the only way the couch would fit down the stairwell of the apartment complex was if the feet were removed. They completely ignored this. They tried to ram the couch down  the stairwell and got it stuck! My husband and brother-in-law had to get it out for them. Then, the moving crew tried to tell us the feet couldn't be removed. We removed them ourselves in under three minutes with a basic screwdriver (that we had dig out of a box because the moving crew didn't bring any tools). With the guidance of my husband, the crew finally managed to get the couch onto the truck. Thank goodness the landlord didn't try to charge us for the damage to the stairwell.
The bottom line is our $1,000 couch ended up with a broken frame, damaged upholstery and scratched feet. The head mover wrote this on our moving paperwork and promised us that management would call us first thing Monday to talk about this incident. No call came. Over the next ten days, we left four messages for management and didn't get even one returned call. Thank heavens the couch was still under warranty and, after hearing this story, the furniture company agreed to cover all the repairs!

They provided boxes, tape, markers and expertise, as well as labor to help us move our entire household belongings in one day, to escape the flood of 2009.
