Mayer was recommended to us when we started the renovation of our fixer upper. it usually took a couple of calls to speak to a person who could schedule the jobs. Once they got an electrician on site, though, the work was done well and quickly and they were always very polite and friendly. There was no question that Mayer's electricians knew their jobs well.
After the 3rd job, however, a call to schedule the 2nd half of our basement lighting upgrade was not returned. Not sure if they were busy, our job was too small, or the message didn't get passed or received, After a few weeks of waiting we called another contractor to finish the job.
Mayer's prices seemed a bit high, but a lot of services in this town are apparently higher than the national average by 10% or more.
A contractor named Ron came to my home. He successfully disconnected my outlet. When he came back to connect two lights to one switch he left the ceiling plate with hot wires covered in wire nuts and wires that I needed to hook into unstripped, pushed up in the plate. Basically, this job was left as a "rough in", not ready for a residential homeowner to connect fixtures.
Also while working in my attic he cut power to an outlet in my room.
He failed to show up for one appointment, and showed hours late to another.
I spent six months trying to get my bill settled. Finally a meeting was arranged with the contractor and Mayer's office manager. During the meeting they insisted that the problems were my fault. Ron even said that the problem was that I didn't know what I was doing. This isn't true. Their customer service has been a nightmare. When addressing the issue of their poor punctuality {which cost me money paid to a general contractor while waiting for Ron to show} he told me that "That's just how it is." As in, they see this as an acceptable business practice.
I am convinced that Mayer Electric does not value their residential customers.
At the end of the ordeal, Mayer came back to fix the outlet that they had cut. They did this at no additional charge. They also took money off of the bill for hours paid to my contractor while waiting for Ron to show. I was still forced to pay for Ron's hours spent fixing his mistakes with wiring the lights.
