TOM'S PAINTING

THERE WAS A FLYER IN THE MAIL FOR PAINTING  FROM TOM'S PAINTING.  I CALLED HIM AND MADE A APPOINTMENT
TO MEET WITH HIM.  HE CAME OUT AND QUOTED ME A PRICE OF $685.00 WHICH INCLUDED FILL HOLES, NAIL LOOSE
BOARDS AND PAINT THE HOUSE AND TRIM.  I HAD PAID $350.00 DOWN WITH THE BALANCE ON COMPLETION. 
HE CAME OUT ON WEDNESDAY 9-18-13 AND PAINTED.  I CAME HOME FROM WORK THAT AFTERNOON AND HE SAID THEY WERE DONE.  I CHECKED AROUND AND FOUND SOME PLACES THAT THE PAINT WAS SHOWING THROUGH THE
COLOR THAT WAS PAINTED.  HE TOUCHED THEM UP AND WAS PAID THE BALANCE.  AFTER HE LEFT I DID A CLOSER
INSPECTION AND FOUND A LOT OF PLACES WHERE THE OLD PAINT WAS SHOWING THROUGH.   I CALLED HIM
THAT AFTERNOON AND TOLD HIM ABOUT IT.  HIS REPLY WAS " THAT I WAS SEEING SHADOWS."  I
 TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD WAIT UNTIL THURSDAY AND CHECK AGAIN.
ON THURSDAY MY BROTHER-IN-LAW CAME OVER AND CHECKED IT OUT. HE FOUND A LOT MORE PLACES THAT
WERE MISSED AND SOME PLACES THEY DIDN'T EVEN PAINT.   I CALLED HIM AND WE SET UP A MEETING TO DISCUSS
THE PAINT JOB ON SATURDAY. 
ON SATURDAY WE MET WITH HIM.  RIGHT AWAY HE GOT ON THE DEFENSIVE AND SAID "DON'T TREAT ME LIKE A
CRIMNAL."  HE AGREED TO REPAINT THE HOUSE ON TUESDAY 9-24-13.  HE NEVER SHOWED UP BUT HE CALLED AND
SAID HE WOULD BE THERE ON WEDNESDAY 9-25-13.  NEEDLESS HE TOSAY HE NEVER SHOWED.
I CAME HOME LATE THURSDAY NIGHT TO FIND A EMPTY PAINT CAN ON MY STEPS WITH NO NOTE AS TO
WHAT WAS DONE.  I CHECKED ON FRIDAY 9-27-13 AND THE PAINTD JOB WAS TERRIBLE.  HE DIDN'T FIX ALL
THE PROBLEMS, THERE WERE PLACES THAT THE OLD COLOR WAS SHOWING, PLACES HE DIDN'T EVEN PAINT,
AND BESIDES HE PAINTED ON A WINDY DAY.  THE SOUTH SIDEOF THE HOUSE HAS BIG SPOTS OF PAINT ALL
OVER.  APPARENTLY IT MUST HAVE BLOWN OF THE BRUSH.  SOME OF THE SIDING HAS LIKE A DRY ROLLER BRUSH
MARKS ALL OVER.
NEEDLESS TO SAY I WOULD NOT RCOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE.  IF I HAVE MY WAY I AM THINKING OF REPORTING
HIM TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU.  I AM TELLING A LOT OF PEOPLE HOW BAD OF A JOB HE DID.

When we moved into our current home, we used Tom's Painting on 3 occasions and were quite pleased with his work and prices. So, when he asked for a deposit to buy paint for painting our garage interior, I gave him $400 without question. And then he disappeared. Numerous attempts to contact him were ignored. Efforts to take him to Small Claims Court were unsuccessful as he would not provide the Sheriff's Dept with a current residence so that papers could be presented.
He was to do the work while we were out of town so I had given him a key to our garage. When he absconded with the money, we felt it necessary to change the locks at an added cost of $100.
He can do good work but I my current opinion is that he is a complete scoundrel and I would not trust him to do what he claims he will do.

Tom advertises his services as "fast and neat." For me he was neither. He began to run behind on schedule, so he hired inexperienced, unskilled people to do the job in his place. He, and the inexperienced crew, slopped paint on unpainted surfaces, left undercoats show through, and in the end never even finished the job. I hired someone else to finish it. Since he needed money, I paid him before he was finished, on his word that he would finish, which was a big mistake.
