They first came out in December to replace our old and leaky water heater which we inherited from the previous owner a month prior. They did an okay job it was way overpriced and the techs seemed very rude and unhappy to be there, that's fine everyone has a bad day. Fast forward to June 14th when we were having another set of plumbing issues fixed by another company and they noticed there was leaking from the valves on the water heater. We thought this odd since all the piping was replaced at the time of the water heater. I called the following day and they told me someone would be out within 24 hours. The tech arrived on time but was incredibly unfriendly and rude and made it seem like I inconvenienced him to come out and do his job (pretty positive it's the same guy that installed it in the first place). Then he said he had to run out and get the part 10 minutes after he first got there, he was gone an hour and by the time he finished working on the issue it was a total of 2.5 hours. I have to be honest I have never seen anyone function as slowly as this man did, he literally took his time as molasses. I will not be using this company ever again and will not recommend it. Obviously being in business for as long as they have has gone straight to their heads oh and they had the audacity to charge me $100 for labor...complete ridiculousness.
Update: I called into the office and complained about the labor charge and I did have a pleasant woman call me back and state that in fact this was a warranty issue and that she would shred my check. I'm bumping the overall score a grade because of this as they recognized their mistake however only after I had initiated contact.
As soon as I turned the air back on it started leaking. Nothing had been done to correct it – so my options were to run a hose, the pump or a bucket. I called the service manager the next day – I stated my dissatisfaction about paying $147 and now having to have someone come back out. He said he would make an adjustment. I was assured that he would take care of the adjustment since I had already paid. My check was cashed the next day and no adjustment was made. I also set a time for the service tech to come back out. I ended up going out of town and called the office to reschedule. I have never heard back.
I later got an invoice - it stated it was billed at a flat rate of $167.00 less the $20 coupon. I had paid the service tech when he was here.
Out of desperation I had another company come out and fix it – they simply unplugged the floor drain. They charged $40.
When I first called the service manager, we had a small misunderstanding about what I was looking for – I had made the comment “word about bad service can spread fast” to which he replied “we have been in business 90 years – so I am not worried” I guess you can treat customers terribly if you have been in business for 90 years. I was assured twice I would get a credit - three months later and I have heard nothing.
Out of the 7 bids I got, Robert Gibb was the only one to encourage me to replace both the furnace AND AC units, even though my furnace is working just fine (had it checked in the spring). They were also the only one of the 7 to encourage purchasing only HE units by putting in a plug for the remaining (albeit much less appealing than a couple years ago) rebate programs.
So, in short, they wanted me to spend more on stuff I didn't need just to take advantage of $1500 in rebates from I think three places. None of the other bidders suggested high-efficiency units. This left a sour taste in my mouth and thus I didn't even consider the bid.
In addition, the bid quoted for a 2.5 ton 13 SEER Bryant AC, coil, line work and labor, etc, was $2854.00 ... easily $500 more than I ended up spending with Laney's for the same unit.
On the bright side, I also asked for a bid to replace our existing air exchanger. From the research I've done, in this part of the country you are supposed to be installing ERVs instead of HRVs, although half of the bidders I worked with were suggesting HRVs, Robert Gibb and Sons suggested an ERV. So, kudos to them for (I think) selling the right product!
