Child Care - Center
Obviously, this is my personal experience if you need childcare go for an interview and see for yourself- you could have a completely different completely enjoyable experience and get along swimmingly. This place was just not a good fit for my familiy
For me the overall experience was pretty awful. In my opinion, there is a reason why there are only a few kids at this facility. When we interviewed before the birth of our son we weren't too impressed with her but really liked the facility and her assistant.
When my son started there at 9 weeks old we found that her assistant who we liked had left and she had hired a new one (who was also a very nice lady) but, we were irritated that she didn't bother to tell us- that someone else would care for our child.
I am not sure if this woman just had a problem with me or what but if you do choose her facility don't ask questions or you will be labeled as a complainer. Also, she seemed flaky- passive-aggressive and won't ever tell you what exactly she wants but then seems to get mad when you don't know- it seemed like whenever I asked her about something or she felt "challenged" by me -as in the examples below- something weird or critical would show up on my son's daily report card like "his socks are too big or too small" just weird passive aggressive things like that.
Here are a few examples:
There was a large dog in front of her facility one day, not tied up. I was hesitant to get out of my car. She came out and said it was her parents dog- and that I was "goofy" for not getting out of my car- I told her the reason for my hesitation - I wasn't sure where the dog belonged etc. and she became offended and said that she wouldn't have a dog there that would hurt the kids etc. (I do believe that but I am somehow just supposed to know that it is her dog and it's safe?!)
When I expressed concern because another child was "obsessed" (the owner's word not mine)
with my baby, she became offended and said that this little girl would never hurt him. This is after she had to discipline her for trying to push over my son while he was in a bouncer. She blew off my concerns which is frustrating.
She told me the easter bunny was coming and was offended that I dared ask- Oh, did you hire someone? I was just making conversation not challenging her judgement in any way.
I guess the last straw for me was when I picked up my baby early and there were two strangers in the facility. The woman was entertaining my son in a swing and the man had a 3 year old girl sitting on his lap. I asked "are you the new helpers?" and was told that they were staying in the trailer next to the daycare while they are doing some construction work. Seriously! I go to a licensed daycare so I know that anyone who interacts with my child has been vetted through the state. Not so some stranger can come in and plop a kid on his lap. In addition to this whole thing- my baby had not eaten for over 4 hours and I had to drive a screaming crying baby across town to go get shots. Nice. It made me wonder if she was too busy entertaining these people to take care of my baby. This literally made me sick. I was very upset but tried really hard to talk to her about the situation in a calm way. Unfortunately the conversation dissolved pretty quickly as she was completely unreceptive to my concerns -no surprise- she just kept saying she was the owner (so she is infallible?) and told me if I have a problem then to get out- so we did.
