My experience with H J machining was absolutely terrible. Maybe they treat their old established farm operator customers with respect, I have no way of knowing. But I was a total stranger walking into their shop and Harold's wife treated me with utter contempt. I was perfectly polite to her, I went over board to do so, but it didn't help. I am so bewildered why Harold's wife treated me this way. I was a plumber for 31 years in Fargo, North Dakota and dealt with thousands upon thousands of women, house wives. I never had a problem. I always got high ratings from the customer rating papers mailed out. So I know for sure that I am not the one with a problem. I think H J Machining has an old established customer base, but I advise anyone who hasn't dealt with H J Machining to stay away from them.
Description of Work: I took the cylinder for my Harley Davidson Golf Car to M J Machining. They are a husband and wife team. The husband was not there that day. I needed the cylinder bored to the size of a new piston that I provided. The wife told me that Harold just had heart surgery and he couldn't work for awhile. I said that is fine, I don't need the engine until Spring anyway. I picked up a cute little kitty cat from the shop floor and I held it as I was talking to the wife. I was very gentle with the cat, I just love pets. After the wife got the information she needed, she stood up and took the cat away from me with a very disgusted look on her face. I thought she was just having a bad day because Harold was having heart surgery. That I could understand. I left the shop not feeling very good about my first meeting with these people. Then Harold called me. He said he wanted to know what the standard bore of the cylinder was. I had a book for the golf car, but I could not find that information for the life of me. He had me look in the book 2 times, both times I told him, I could not find the info. I asked him to just bore out the cylinder to fit the new piston I provided. I did have the clearance specifacations, and I gave him that. I felt that was all the information he needed. Harold was rude to me, but nowhere as rude as his wife. So the winter went by. I heard nothing from H J Machining all winter long. Spring is here, so I called the shop. I got their voice mail. I did not leave a message. The next week Harold's wife called me and said my engine was done. She was very rude to me. She said to me and I quote... "You better make up your mind what you are going to do".. I asked her how much money for the work done. She said 63 dollars. I thought that to be a fair price. After I hung up the phone with Harold's wife I thought to myself. I am not going to be treated this way. So I became a member of Angie's List and wrote this review. I am going to send H J Machining a hand written letter and let them know that they will never see a penny from me after they disrespected me 3 times. And I am going to let them know how to find this review I wrote of them so that they can see my side of the story. They can keep my engine as a reminder of a customer who wouldn't take their abuse. I can buy a new engine for about 200 dollars from a company on the internet.
