If I could give them 0 stars I would. I’m not someone who writes reviews but I am making a point to post this. We have purchased a water heater, new AC, and almost purchased a furnace from them all in the last 3 years. I now question whether or not we actually needed to replace our water heater and AC, because they heavily pitched us on just buying a new one at the time and we trusted them. When our furnace stopped working, we called them yet again and their tech came out and spent a couple hours trying to fix the problem before deciding we needed a new motherboard. He contacted “his reps” and we waited for a week and a half for “his reps” to ultimately send the wrong part. No one realized this and the tech came out and worked on putting the wrong motherboard in for a few hours. When the tech eventually figured out it was the wrong part, he contacted “his rep” and they said they can’t get our motherboard anymore and we would have to buy a whole new furnace. By this point, we were without heat for 2+ weeks in mid to late October. Then the sales guy calls me to pitch me his quotes on a new furnace and talks down to me because I’m a woman, telling me I should speak with my husband. Disgusting. He gives me a quote that is about $1500 higher than the other company we ultimately went with. Fast forward to now and this company has the guts to send us a bill for $500. For what? The tech literally did nothing the entire time he was here. We are happy to pay for his time for the initial visit when we didn’t know what was wrong, but it’s not our fault their “rep” sent the wrong part and sent their tech on a wild goose chase for 3+ hours. Send the bill to their rep or eat the cost. If the rep had told them they couldn’t get the part in the first place, it would have been over with right there. When my husband called to argue, the sales guy acted like he was doing us a favor by somehow sending us a bill for only $500. What? Absolutely sleazy sales techniques. I have already told multiple people never to work with this company and plan to tell everyone who will listen never to work with them. This is NOT how you treat people, especially good customers who have already purchased an AC and water heater through you. Shame on you.

They were reasonable in price, they weren’t the most expensive, they weren’t the cheapest. They were the middle of the road. I was happy with the price. She gave very good suggestions on how to do things. She suggested handy capp bars which we had never thought of. She suggested comfort high toilet which was smart. I sure like. She suggested upgrading things we wouldn’t have thought of. They are calling to let us know when they are coming, about what time to expecting them. So we are not having a long wait in between.

Found the problem quickly and fixed it at a very reasonable price. Explained the failure and the parts needed thoroughly, and even cleaned out the dirty coil fins for me!

I called Northern Plains Heating and Air to come to my residence and give me a quote on installing a furnace and central air. Adam came out the same day and I had a quote the next day. One week later their service department installed the new system. The installers did a very neat job and we are very happy with their work. I had also called two other contractors for a quote but their sales department never even returned my call.

I have used this contractor since I remodeled my kitchen.  They are always professional, always call if not on time, and friendly.  They have also installed a new water heater for me in the past.  The only reason I gave a B on the price is I am not sure if their prices are the same as others as I only use them.  If you find someone you like, it's not always worth shopping around.

That's the good news.  I asked the technician to replace the sacrificial anode since the water heater was 8 years old.  In short, the technician did not realize that the heater had to be cooled before attempting the removal of the anode.  He ruined the anode trying to get it out.  So I now have a new water heater.  Mixed feelings.  The technician should have known that magnesium expands faster than stainless steel, and was locked because of the different expansion properties.

We were sent a $75 bill based on their conclusion that it wasn't warranty work, not taking into account Red Door ordered the service request, and us, as the homeowners, didn't authorize any such payments out of warranty, saying it wasn't a workmanship issue (though I could never get a specific definition of this), but rather a cleaning issue.
The position of Northern Plains is to charge the homeowner $75 whenever a service technician is sent to a house, regardless of who ordered the service. We were forced to use Northern Plains as they were the initial installers, and then were forced to pay for work rendered based on the service requested by the builder. In my opinion it is poor business practice to charge an unwilling 3rd party based on the transaction of separate entities.

well after he was done with everything he had to do he said that we should call someone to clean out heat ducts and the furnace, but we still haven't been able to afford it yet.

Diagnosed two potential problems
Didn't have parts with him, so he went to get them
An hour later he came back and installed the parts
Tested the parts and left.

Northern Plains was extremely nice to work with.  Everything they installed worked with zero issues.  They also were very helpful with planning during our design process.  I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

After moving and replacing pipe under the kitchen sink, the drain was running slowly so I tried snaking it a couple of times. I then discovered one of the old pipes was leaking under the floor. I called Northern Plains again in the morning and they had the old pipes replaced by the end of the day.
