Quick Summary: Poor Service and Glass/Hazardous Materials in Product! Details: A To Z was originally hired to bring in 11 loads of screened topsoil. The owner (Brett) wanted $200 / delivered load of topsoil but was willing to "give me a deal" due to the number of loads I was asking for, bringing the price down to $185 / delivered load. Brett brought the first few loads of dirt in late October and spread them out over my front yard. I inspected the dirt (which looked good) and told him to go ahead and bring the rest as he had time. He delivered the remaining loads over the next few days and I paid him $2,035 for the dirt on the day the last load was delivered, 11/03/2013. My landscaper came out the next week and began spreading and leveling the remaining dirt. It soon became apparent that I would need more dirt than expected. Another call to Brett and he delivered another 12.5 loads of topsoil throughout the week with the last load delivered on 11/19/2013. He offered to give one of the loads for free since I was now up to 22+ loads. My wife and I were not home when the last load was delivered so we had to write him a $2,127.50 check and send it in the mail. Over the next week, Brett called and texted me while I was at work demanding to know where his check was for the 2nd half of the dirt. I informed him that a check had been written and was in the mail. He continued to text or call every day until he received it a few days later. I felt it was extremely unprofessional, but was glad to have things settled. This spring, my landscaper came out to spread and level the remaining dirt over the yard. I noticed that there seemed to be a lot more rock and stone in the subsequent loads of dirt but It went smoothly and my hope was that I would soon be ready to plant my yard. One morning I found a few pieces of glass in the front yard as I was taking my dog out for his morning walk. I picked them up and threw them away wondering where it had come from. Over the next few days, I walked my yard each morning and evening and picked up TONS of glass, ceramic, and barbed wire. It was everywhere. I called Brett to explain the situation and to ask him if he would be willing to come out to clean it up or to replace the dirt with better product. He said "a bottle must have fallen on the screener". I explained to him that definitely wasn't the case. I had collected glass of all colors, shapes and sizes. There was definitely glass in his dirt source and it wasn't due to a bottle falling on the screener. He told me that he didn't know there was glass in the dirt or he wouldn't have sold it to me. However, he said there was nothing he could do about it. He explained he didn't want any "hard feelings" and offered me a decorative boulder. I explained to him that I didn't want a decorative boulder as that didn't solve my problem of having glass all over my yard. He said there was nothing else he could do. I took a picture of the stash of glass and debris that I collected the next morning. I told him much of it looked larger than what would go through a 3/4" screener, again pleading with Brett that I have a young daughter and a wife and dog that will be in the yard every day and I can't feel comfortable with that until the glass was cleaned up. His response (sorry for the grammar as this is his text message verbatim): "that's really not that much glass for 20 some loads of dirt like two bottles or so maybe. I offered you what I can do take it or leave it I don't know what to tell you you're lucky you didn't pay double that and have glass in the end either way......I offered to come and pick the glass for a little bit that wasn't good enough I offered to give you some decorative rocks that wasn't good enough.....out of the 300 plus loads I sold last year you're the only one that has a problem........I believe you that it's there no doubt obviously it is" Any of my future attempts to contact him were ignored. I tried to find a solution that would pick up the glass out of the dirt, but found that there was no quick fix. I spent the next two weeks raking and picking glass out of my yard by hand. Quite possibly the worst customer service experience I've had and the worst $4,000 I've ever spent.

This was the worst experience I have ever had with a contractor. There name is A to Z Tragedy Relief and Restoration. I beleive they took advantage of people that recently went through a devastating flood. They finished the job in three months (September 2012) instead of the couple weeks we were told. Instead of placing the rock correclty and digging a keyway at the bottom for the base of the rock, they used a skidsteer to dump rock down the bank, which rolled randomly to the water. The finished job appeared to be OK, but little did we know that the fabric under the rock was not buried so water could not get under it. Eight months later (May 2013) the ground started breaking away and the rock and ground began to slide causing alot of damage. We tried to contact Brett (owner) it took many calls and text messages to finally get a hold of him and to get him to come look at the damage. July 2013 he finally showed up. He started saying that he should have noticed the neighbors pond and it most definately was leaking. If that was not the case (which he was positive it was) the problem was my husband told him he did not want rock 3-4 feet out into the water like Brett wanted to do. My husband had told him he didnt want the random few rocks that rolled out away from the rest to be left out in the water because it was a hazard for boats. Brett said he could "cosmetically" fix the area of the bank that slid for a $1000, but wasnt sure about the rest of the bank that hadnt slid yet. He said he could fit us in in Sept 2013. We tried contacting him several times before he was to do the work. He would only text and his price changed to $4000. Sept 28th we text him and asked. DO YOU HAVE ANY INTENTIONS ON COMING TO FIX THE BANK? His reply was NO. SO not only did he do a terrible job for $13000, but he lead us on for 4 months only to say he had no intention on coming out to fix the damage and we were told to stop texting him. Pictures will follow

Went smooth, no major problems. We got an estimate from a few different businesses and chose A to Z because they seemed genuine in the care they provided while working.
Description of Work: This company was absolutly awesome at replanting/landscaping my property after the 2011 flood in Bismarck/Mandan ND. They were very caring, and accepted payments for services. Which meant alot to me considering the money spent to save my home from rising flood waters. I had to build a temporoary d*** around my home and took dirt from my yard to do so, needless to say the yard was a disaster and A to Z restored it to the beautiful yard it once was!! Great price too, lower than other estimates by about 400.00 : ) Great local company helping the community at a time of crisis. I would definatley refer them to my friends, family, and neighbors affected by the flood.
