They installed the french drain, sump pump, outside catch basins, and foundation vents in January 2012. They said it would take 60-90 days for the dirt to dry out, and then they would return to put down plastic over the entire crawl space dirt. When Willare installed the outside catch basins (covered by a small grate), they did not contour the ground around it, so the drains didn't work that well. After we contoured the ground, the little drains worked great.
We had to call them several times to come back and install the plastic on the ground of thee crawl space. They didn't come back until 6 months later. Our crawl space is literally and quot;crawland quot; space. In a couple of places you can perhaps crouch, and in others, you have to slither like a snake on your belly. So, it's a tight space. Willard refused to remove the dirt that was unearthed during installation of the french drain/sump pump, saying they would smooth it out after everything dried out. That means that what was once a tight space is now very cramped. We have to get in the crawl space to access the HVAC to change the filter, and ocassionally a plumber/electrician needs access. So, we are not thrilled by the fact that what little space we had to manoeuver is even smaller now.
The french drain/sump pump system is working well, so we're pleased about that. Overall, a mixed experience.
"In response to the comments that were made we would like to say that this was a extremely wet crawlspace when we started the job on Jan.24.2012 and now it is a nice dry space. We had scheduled this job for 2 days but because of 6 to 8 inches of water pouring into our french drain trench while we were trying to work it took us a extra day. Our crew worked very hard on this job in mud and rain. This crawlspace was average in height to most crawlspaces that we do but was not average in the amount of water coming in. We were sure that this house was built on top of springs and all the neighborhood water drained towards this house. As to the small drains outside we did the best we could at grading the dirt when we installed them due to all the mud outside. As to getting back to put the vapor berrier down a normal crawlspace takes 30 to 90 days to dry out, this was not a normal crawlspace and you want it to be nice and dry when you do install the plastic or it will take longer to dry out if you put down the plastic to soon. I did explain this to the customer along with the fact that I would work on getting someone there to do it , we were extremely busy at that time due to lots of rain. On his 2nd call to remind me, I told him that I had not forgotten about him and I was able to send 3 men over 2 days later. It is not on our contract to take dirt out but we do try to smooth out the dirt as best as we can. I was told by my crew that the customer was fine with the work and had only asked that they check a cable line that he thought was pulled tight underneath the crawlspace, which they did. We were never contacted about any problems with the job. No one ever commented to us about the small drains needing to be graded around them or we would have sent someone back to do that. We do know that the job was done right and they have a lifetime warranty with the french drain. We are sorry to hear that they were not 100% happy. If they would have called and spoken to Mr. Willard then we would have addressed any issues. After 30 yrs. in business this is a first for us."
