I called Dr. Young on Saturday, May 17, 2014, when I first noticed Chanel's illness. He was out of town otherwise he would have responded right away. We made an appt for Monday, May 19 at 10:30 a.m. and he arrived exactly on time. He and I evaluated Chanel while she swam and I explained her symptoms to him. We then caught Chanel in a big fish net and put her in a large tub of pond water and anesthetized her so Dr. Sam could take some blood, some fin and gill cuttings and scale scrapping which he will send off to a lab for analizing, determining cause and planning for treatment. We then woke Chanel up and put some Kosher salt in the tub to assist in her healing. After a half hour of soaking we put Chanel back into the pond. I then rinsed the buckets and airators to be ready for the next salt bath treatment on May 21, which I am able to do without Dr. Sam. He will return once he gets the lab results. Although Dr. Sam now lives in Winston Salem, he still has many clients in Charlotte, including the Concord Mills Aquarium.

The doctor successfully treated the fish and returned them to the pond. He also took a water sample with him so he could further analyze the water. He suggested that I add uniodized salt to the pond for treating all of the Koi for superficial wounds. He is returning in three days to administer a second round of antibiotics to the two specified Koi. Dr. Sam brought an assistant with him and both were caring and professional in handling the Koi. Although Dr. Sam isn't sure why the fish are having problems, he is assessing the cause and will get back to me. I would highly recommend Dr. Sam to anyone that is having health issues with there Koi.
