One evening I arrived home about 7 PM to find my new (2 years old) kitchen flooded. Water was dripping out of the pendant lights and there was water on the counter, the oak floor and even in a drawer that wasn't completely closed. I realized that the new bathroom was above the kitchen and the new shower was leaking so I called Steve on his cell and at the office. I cleaned up the mess and called Steve again on both lines. I never heard back.
The next morning when the worker arrived I told him about the leak. He said the plumbers had put the shower drain in and put a balloon of water in for the inspector to test the next morning - it obviously failed! But no one had informed me of that possibility and I never heard anything back from Steve until after his laborer called him.
That was only the beginning. The new floor in the bathroom had 2 planks with gouges in them and I was told that "the wood comes that way". When I told Steve it was unacceptable they came out and patched the spots with putty that did not match. Again I complained and they came out and put in small lengths of wood that obviously looked patched. Again I complained, Then they replaced the entire length of wood but varnished it with a gloss instead of satin!
Steve never knew because he never came out. He did not follow up although he told us when he was "selling his service" that he would be very reliable and vigilant.
The tile and grout in the shower was installed very sloppily and more than 10 tiles were chipped or cracked. All the cut edges were ragged. I pointed it out to Steve and two other workers re grouted - with the wrong color grout! They chipped it out and re-grouted and in the process chipped more tiles! Now there are also two different colors of grout visible.
All of the mitered corners of the woodwork did not meet. The painted woodwork looked like it wasn't sanded well if at all and there was debris and rough spots under the paint.
The tub drain had to be installed 3 times because pieces broke. The light fixtures did not match and the globe on one was broken. Things seemed to go wrong at every turn.
The bathroom was not finished until months after the deadline. In many cases it took more than 3 attempts to fix things and they are still not correct. Finally in January we paid him and said "no more" even though many things are still unfinshed or poorly done.
Than to top things off - in July! at 7:30 the city inspector showed up at our house to complete the final inspection. He said that Steve just turned in his report for the final inspection and of course Steve never informed us. Inconvenienced once more because of Maplestone's inconsideration.
Do not hire them!
