Mr. Mike Fawcett acted as quite a professional when I discussed what I wanted done. He seemed to listen and asked questions. However, I began seeing almost right away that things were not quite right with him and his work. The first problem that I saw was that he used my garbage can to put all the ceiling debris in. I thought that contractors (such as he represented himself to be) were responsible for hauling off their own messes. Then, when he claimed that the job was done, there was dust all over surfaces in the house. When I commented on that to him, he claimed that his assistant was supposed to have cleaned that up. (Doesn't he check behind his workers to make sure that things are done properly?) He never sent the assistant back to clean up nor offered to clean it himself. Later, I also noticed that white paint spots were all over the wooden chest that I received after my grandmother's death. Upon inspecting his work, I noticed that the ceiling had rough edges, there were cracks in the paint where the wall meets the ceiling, and there was white paint on my tan walls and on the crown molding in the kitchen. When I tried to show him the problems and explain what I had wanted, he seemed to have excuses for everything or seemed not to understand what I was saying. He said that the rough edges of the ceiling were caused by the sheetrock tape and that I had not told him that I wanted that smoothed out. (If I wanted the popcorn off, didn't I want smooth ceilings?) He said that it would cost me more if he had to go back and redo the edges. When I brought up the cracks and the paint on the molding and the already-painted walls, he never acknowledged them, but just kept talking about the sheetrock being yellow (he said that it had probably gotten wet when the house was built) and that the yellow color kept bleeding through. I NEVER saw any yellow bleeding through the white paint, but he insisted that he needed to buy more paint to cover it up. I do not presently live in the house where this work was done, and later, when I inspected the paint work in natural light, I noticed that the light fixtures had not been painted around in the kitchen or livingroom. (Shouldn't the light fixtures have been removed before the painting was done?) He (or someone) came back and touched up around those spots, but the paint is streaky--it does not have a smooth finish. I asked a neighbor (who is much more knowledgeable about home repairs than I) to look at what was done. I told her what I did not like about the work, and she agreed with me. She offered to talk to Mr. Fawcett and meet him at the house to explain to him what I was not happy about. When Mr. Fawcett talked with her on the phone, he claimed that a truck had backed into him and he was going to be out of work for some time (I cannot remember the length of time. It might have been 8 to 9 weeks.) but that the paint needed 6 months to cure. She told me that he had all kinds of excuses for his work and that she had never heard of letting the paint cure for 6 months! After about 6 to 8 months, I called Mr. Fawcett to see if he would come out again to look at the work he had done. In addition, I wanted him to see that my neighbor had redone one of the rooms and how beautiful it looked. He said that he would not be able to come for about two weeks. After about five weeks and hearing nothing from him, I called again. This time he said that he would meet me at the house, but he would not talk to my neighbor, saying that I had told him that she said his work was all "crap". I told him that she did not say that and that I would not have told him if she had because I do not talk like that. He hung up on me. I tried calling him several more times and he would pick up but would not talk to me.
Description of Work: Scraped "popcorn" off ceilings and painted the ceilings
