They needed money for materials up front because they could get a good deal and he said they would give me a $1000 discount off the quoted price if I paid up front. I gave them the $9,000 in October of '08. I didn't hear from them again, despite phone calls from me, until people showed up at my house on November 17 for half a day. The morning of the 18th Scott Pruitt showed up and said he needed $5000 to $7000 for labor. He said $7000 would pay for 2 weeks of labor. The job was to be finished in 5 to 7 weeks. Labor was to be paid in 4 installments. At this point I had paid them a total of $16,000. When they left on the 19th all the cabinets and appliances had been taken out. They didn't come back until the 29th of December and the materials they brought totaled about $4000 and I had paid them $9000. I found out from the carpenter they subcontracted that Dutch handyman had not paid him or the other subcontractors for 2 months. I never got receipts for anything, including the money I paid for them, despite my requests for receipts. On Jan 5th, the person who was working as the project manager became the subcontractor and started doing the work for me. The subcontractor actually did give me receipts and was honest with me. Since I knew the subcontractors weren't being paid by Dutch Handyman, I began paying the subcontractors for what was left on the contract. I finished paying for labor and some extra materials on the 22nd of January. The subcontractor asked for more of the money from Dutch Handyman so they could continue the work, but Dutch Handyman told them they had no money left to pay them. The subcontractor contacted them every week until the end of July about more money. He was able to get about another $1000 from them. I was living in the house this whole time, and when they stopped on Jan 22nd, there were open studs throughout the house and people could see straight through the house. I gathered more money and finally was able to rehire the subcontractor who had actually been honest with me in October. The subcontractors have done excellent work, given the circumstances, and my complaint is with Dutch Handyman, not them. I have had to pay twice to have the house finished. I had no access to my garage because they had to board up the 2 doors to my house so people couldn't get in. I have no kitchen, no washer and dryer and I only have water in 2 bathrooms. I met with Roy, the owner, 3 times and made written demands that the work be finished and the subcontractors be paid, but nothing ever happened. Neither Roy or Scott Pruitt could care less about what they have done to me. I would obviously not recommend them to anyone.
