They were able to match up the gutters, and do the work without having to replace everything. They were wonderful, they were honest, and they earned what they charged.

Wright Family Home Improvements installed new roofing and new windows in my entire home. Mr. Wright was on the job everyday and provided excellent workmanship and prices. He was professional in approach from the first day straight through until the completion of the job. I highly recommend Wright Family Home Improvements for all home improvement projects. Mr. Wright is one of the good guys!

We hired Jon Wright to roof our house. Though we could have chosen many roofers with good reputations, Jon is our neighbor, and we wanted to give him the work. We requested a full tear off in order to look for rot as we had several shingles missing for over a year. The contract stated that he would "install 15# felt over entire house" and "install 30-year architectural shingles over entire house". He gave us a sample board showing different colors of Owens Corning Tru-Definition Duration shingles. My husband and I spent a considerable amount of time researching the quality of these shingles. We went to multiple home improvement stores to look at larger samples of the shingles to decide on a color, and then wrote on the contract "Tru-Definition Duration shingles in Teak" so there would be no question as to what we were getting. Before the contract was signed, Jon Wright came to my house on two or three occasions to get a $4000.00 deposit for supplies. I explained I didn't want to give him a deposit check until the contract was signed and we had a rough idea of when the job would start. When we were ready, we signed the contract and gave him a check. When the shingles arrived, I saw that they were Owens Corning Oakridge, a cheaper and lower quality shingle than we contracted for. I watched Mr. Wright come to my driveway, inspect the supplies, and leave as if everything was in order. There is no doubt in my mind that he would have put those shingles on our house if we hadn't spoken up. When asked about Oakridge being delivered instead of Tru-Definition Duration, Mr. Wright told my husband that they were the same thing. My husband said no, they were cheaper and of lower quality. At that point, Mr. Wright changed his story and said ABC Supply had F-ed him over and he would get the correct shingles here. We told him we didn't want anything torn off our house until the correct shingles were here. By the next morning, we had decided to tell Mr. Wright that we weren't comfortable doing business with him and to ask for our deposit check back. When I called him, he said there was a truck on the way from Myrtle Beach to our house with the correct shingles. His men had arrived to drop off ladders, and because this was my neighbor, I decided to proceed with the job. Shingles arrived that said "Duration" so we assumed they were the correct shingles. We have since learned that they are not what we contracted for. Mr. Wright purchased a cheaper, lower quality, and less attractive Owens Corning Duration shingle that has been discontinued. Unfortunately, we didn't know this before they went on our roof.
The job started on 6/7/12. After the first day of work when the entire back of the house had been completed, my husband and I noticed that a full bucket of plastic cap nails they use to secure the felt paper looked untouched. We also noticed that of the 7 rolls of felt delivered, only one roll had been opened. We had a bad feeling. The next day, I went outside while the roofers were working on the front of the house and saw that they were not tearing off the old felt paper. I asked them if they could see the condition of the wood without tearing off the old felt, and they said they could feel if the wood was soft and rotted. They said if they tore off the old felt paper it would make a huge mess, so they were putting the new felt over the old. I was fine with that. Soon after, Mr. Wright came to my door, and in his usual abrasive manner, he said his foreman told him I had a question. He seemed ticked off that I had questioned anything. I told him I understood that tearing off the old felt would made a big mess for his men so I was fine leaving it and laying new felt over top. He assured me that all new felt was going on the house. This was not true. Months later, we hired a roofer to inspect our roof who found that, among other things, new felt was not on our roof, just the 23-year old, brittle felt paper full of nail holes. In some places there was no felt at all. When confronted, Mr. Wright claimed I had agreed to this. I absolutely did not agree to this. I was assured new felt was being placed over the entire house. This was stated in our contract and this is what we expected. In any event, why would he come to me AFTER HALF THE ROOF WAS FINISHED to get my approval about something that affected the entire roof?. It makes no sense. Mr. Wright was again trying to maximize his profits at our expense. Not laying new felt meant his labor charges would be lower and he could return the felt paper he purchased with our deposit.
On the last day of the job, I saw Mr. Wright loading 16 bundles of shingles into his truck. My husband went outside and asked about this. Mr. Wright said we would be credited for the returned bundles. When we received the final bill from Mr. Wright, we had not been credited for the 16 returned bundles. When asked, Mr. Wright said ABC Supply often delivers extra bundles of shingles, and he was just returning the extra bundles. He insisted that he put all 102 bundles on our roof. He presented us with a doctored receipt that showed he purchased 102 bundles at $34.75 each ($3455.50). He actually purchased 93 bundles at 27.85 each ($2590.05) and returned 16 of those for credit on his account along with 6 rolls of felt. Our roof was shingled with 77 bundles of shingles. He over-estimated the size of our roof by over 25%. I refuse to believe that someone who has been a roofer all his life, as Mr. Wright claims, could be that far off unintentionally.
Mr. Wright sued us in small claims court for the balance due that we have refused to pay. I assume he thought he could scare us into paying. We countersued and when it became clear that we could prove he put the wrong shingles on our roof, he agreed to drop his suit if we drop ours, which we did in order to put this ugly situation behind us.
