They demanded a $5000 deposit, which was contingent upon the approval of my financial advisors.  They still owe me $1000, and I had to fight to get the $4000 I got.  They have been reported to the Sheriff's department.  I have the last check for the $l,000 but they have stopped payment on the check.  They also owe me penalty and interest, which is written on the contract, signed by the man with whom I dealt.... Michael Mason, who told me he was buying the company.  I have nothing nice to say about these people and I hope that no one else was dooped.  I think, however, that they were using other people's money to pay me.  What crooks!

The Company damaged my air conditioner drain pan during their work. This resulted in water damage on a large area of my garage ceiling.  Now the Company can not be reached.  Their phone number has been disconnected.
I would avoid this company and anyone, who has been associated with it, at all costs.

I originally made arrangements for the roof to be installed the first week of January. No one showed up for a month and I did not hear anything from the company. I assumed that they decided not to install the roof. At the end of January I came home and found several metal shingles sitting in my yard. I was not informed that they we going to start installing the roof. I was originally told that the job would take about 3 days. They began on a Monday and didn't finish until Saturday. I have a satellite dish which had to be removed. The dish was down for 2 days even though that part of the roof had been installed. I called the first evening but the person who answered said that he could not help me and would call someone who might be able to. I never heard back. When the dish was installed, it was installed facing the wrong way. I was home at that time and had to point this out to them. The contract included clean up and a copy of the warranty. It took almost a month after they finished before I received a copy of the warranty. This was after I kept calling ans asking for a copy. I had to have them come back out to do some more clean up also. Even after 1 year, I'm still finding debris left over from the asphalt roof.

The insulation went well, we're very pleased with the insulation. I want to tell Angie's List members not to let them do a roof for them. The insulation and the foil barrier were fine. They're still doing repair work on my roof for when they just put a new one on. Part of the job they did was good and part of the job was lousy.

We were idiots for not getting a second company out to give us an estimate.
That said:
Gary LeBer, the owner of SolarStar, came to our home to assess our
energy efficiency needs.  He looked at the attic spaces and garage ceiling
areas and the roof areas where panels could be installed.  He would act as
the contractor for the HVAC and foam insulation subcontracted work.   He
supposedly performed an energy evaluation and determined that with new
insulation we would reduce our electric bill by at least  one quarter.  THIS HAS NOT
HAPPENED.  OUR ELECTRIC BILL HAS NOT CHANGED MORE THAN $20.
In one of the attic spaces we pointed that there
was a lot of close framing and HVAC ductwork and he assured us that the
subcontractor had guys who were like monkeys and could get into those tight
spaces.  WHEN THE FOAM INSTALLERS CAME THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT GET INTO
THOSE AREAS.  WE SETTLED ON SOME REFLECTIVE MATERIAL THAT IS TACKED TO THE
RAFTERS BUT DOES NOT SEEM TO MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE IN THE COMFORT OF THE ROOM
BELOW.  THE PRICE WAS NOT REDUCED FOR THE INFERIOR MATERIAL AND
PERFORMANCE.
We never received calls about when work was
scheduled...we had to call every time for every issue often more than once and
still had scheduling problems arise.
He told us one of his employees would come with a
special device that would "read" the sunlight availability in different
areas of the roof and determine the best placement of the panels.  This
did not happen.
He told us a structural engineer would come to
assess the roof and ensure the panels could be safely installed.  This
happened as described.
The panel installers showed up one day, said they
were the ones that would have done the "read", but since they were
there and it had not been done, it was not really needed saying, "We do
this all the time".
We had to rent a trailer to empty out the garage
so that the HVAC subcontractor could pull down the old ductwork and install the
new before the Foam subcontractor could seal everything up. The HVAC contractor
showed up and said that since the overhead had not been removed he would have
to reschedule his work.  Luckily we were having a relatively cool spell
and the two weeks with no air conditioning in the main house was not as
miserable as it could have been.
The subcontractor who performed the foam
insulation is no longer associated with SolarStar and has told us as of the
second week in September that he will return to fix some problems that have
arisen.  They did come back and took care of the problem areas.
We have contacted Gary LeBer at SolarStar and his
office manager, his daughter Brittany, numerous times to assist us with the set
up of the equipment left in our home when the panels were installed that will
allow us to monitor the individual panels.  We have been ignored...not
even a call to say we can not help you. They gave us the equipment makers
contact information, but they simply sent us a blog entry describing what to
do.  Although computer savvy, neither my engineer husband nor I can figure
out how to "cascade" routers.
THE 12 SOLAR PANELS ARE RATED TO PRODUCE A MAX OF
3 KW...THE READINGS HAVE NEVER BEEN OVER 1.8. WHETHER THIS IS DUE TO PANELS NOT
WORKING OR PANELS NOT PLACED IN THE OPTIMAL LOCATION WE DO NOT KNOW BECAUSE WE
CAN NOT GET SIGNED ON TO GET THE READINGS.  THE MOST CREDIT ON OUR MONTHLY
BILL HAS BEEN $20.
We received a follow up call from Enerbank, the
bankcard issuer that Mr. Leber recommended for an 18 month no interest card to
pay for the project.  Our understanding is that he has to maintain a good
reputation in order to be able to offer their service as part of his sales
pitch.  He could not get his payment from them until we signed a statement
that we were satisfied.  He came to the house the day the work seemed to
be finished and talked us into signing the form...WHAT A HUGE MISTAKE.  We
told Enerbank about our issues and they said to call Mr. Leber and give him a
chance to make things right.  We called and sent correspondence to him as
he requested.  That was two weeks ago and we have not heard a word from
him.
Do not use SolarStar.  They will sell you a promise and not deliver.  We could not be sorrier about hiring them and
feel ripped off to the tune of at least $15,000 for the difference between what was promised and what we have received.

He scammed us. He said the metal roof would withstand winds up to 200 miles an hour. And that it had a lifetime warranty. The metal started popping up within a few days. We had leaks in our new home. He would stand behind what he sold us. We are in the process right now of the expense and the trouble of having the metal taken off and replaced. He is ripping off seniors. He should not be allowed to be in business.Do not hired this person for any job.
