Independently-owned and operated, Port City Mortgage (PCM) was founded on the premise that all customers want and deserve an honest, “no pressure” experience when shopping for a mortgage. PCM does just that for our customers. We disclose in writing all fees and costs associated with the interest rate we quote you, and why the rates we offer are lower than our competitors. We educate you about the mortgage programs available to you given your specific goals and needs. We also walk you through the process of your loan, including its timeline and decisions you will need to make along the way to secure the best deal.

The team at Port City Mortgage was incredible in helping me navigate through the complex, stressful, and sometimes overwhelming process of obtaining a mortgage to purchase a new home. Robert Throne, the president of the company, expertly, promptly, and patiently answered all of my questions and made sure that I understood every detail, no matter how small. I could always count on him to respond to my phone calls or emails within the same day. He took the time to research the various loan options that were available to me, and to analyze each one to determine which was best for my situation and set of circumstances. He locked in a great rate for me—even my real estate attorney was surprised at how low the rate was! Everyone at Port City Mortgage is ready to help at every stage of the loan process. Port City Mortgage handled my wife and I's recent home purchase in Wilmington, NC very professionally and with no delay.  We only had to go through a single round of underwriting items so our loan was cleared to close very quickly.  At the last minute, I decided to change my loan amount.  They were understanding and turned the change around within 1 day so that we could close on time.  I highly recommend this company for a purchase, or of course any time you need to get a mortgage.

If rates sound too good to be true, then they probably are. The lender they used charged us $490 for an appraisal. Appraisal came in over $10,000 more than purchase price, we were putting 20% down, and had perfect credit. Our loan was denied because they lender didn't like the comps used, but wouldn't use others either. Lender owned the company that selected appraiser, but wouldn't use the appraisal. PCM lender was very shady and we're out $490. PCM just wanted to switch us to another lender with a higher interest rate, and push closing further out.
