These guys were awesome! They were on time, professional, clean, and provided a great quality install. We were waiting until our upstairs unit crashed to replace the units so, we had gotten an initial quote last year. As luck would have it, it crashed on the first hot weekend we had. I called O'Brien on Monday to confirm the quote, we signed papers on Tuesday, and the install started on Wednesday. It was completely finished by Friday! We're so happy with the new units. From start to finish, everyone at O'Brien was absolutely amazing.

One of my A/C units was not working. We called O'Brien's and the guy that answered the phone said someone would call first thing in the morning(which was a Saturday) to arrange an appointment. They actually DID call back early Saturday morning AND showed up shortly afterwards. They were punctual and informative. They saved us from a sweltering weekend!!

Obtaining a prompt appointment was very easy; the receptionist was courteous and efficient. We were pleased that they were williing to come to our area; we live in Columbus County about 35 miles from Wilmington. The technician arrived on time and was pleasant and respectful. We were displeased by his talking about how our units should be replaced before he fully inspected them and determined what was needed. He said replacement would cost approximately $13,000 and although there was no "hard-sell" involving this, we would have preferred he approach the problem first with a mind to keeping the old units running. When we told him we could not afford replacement at this time, he accepted this and performed service to inspect both units (which turned out to be working adequately) and cleaning the drain lines to try to prevent further leakage. When asked about the possibility of future leakage, he disappointed us by saying he could not guarantee that it would not happen. He suggested a possible more permanent fix (raising the condenser and moving the drain line), but he did not recommend our doing so, or offer how much it would cost. We felt that he was less than fully knowledgeable regarding our problem and that we did not get particularly good value for the $250 we spent.

"After a discussion with the service technician in question (Chris), our service manager (JP) has communicated the following response: "After" checking the air handler, Chris informed the customer that he may want to look into replacing both units. He was simply trying to make the customer aware of the age of the equipment since there are some time limited specials going on right now. However, Chris should NOT have given a “ballpark” price. That is not our practice because in truth ballpark estimates are rarely accurate. Chris should have explained to the customer that we have trained professionals that will come out to do a proper FREE estimate on replacements. This would involve a NC State required Load Calculation (Heat Loss/Heat Gain) as well an evaluation of the individual customer’s comfort needs for their particular home. This takes time as well as training in the knowledge of these procedures; which is why our service technicians are not permitted to try and provide this information. Concerning the drain line leakage; the statement made by Chris “he could not guarantee that it would not happen” is a true statement. No one can guarantee that a drain line will not leak, especially on a 19 year old unit. All we can do is preventive actions such as flushing/blowing out the drain lines and/or install Treatment Pads. In regards to the recommendation, Chris did not want to pressure the customer with prices on raising the air handler (not condenser). Although now, after speaking with JP, he realizes he should have given a quote for this repair. (JP and Chris are discussing in further detail the labor and material involved in this repair and JP will be contacting the customer with a final price this week.) Concerning the value of the $250 that was spent; this price included the Maintenance performed for both units, as well as a 1 Year Silver Club Membership for both units. The membership includes 1 FREE Tune-up, priority service, and discounts on Service Calls & Repairs. I hope this explanation will allow the customer to see the “true value” in what was paid. It is unquestionable that Chris is an experienced service technician. He has been in the HVAC industry for several years and is very knowledgeable in his chosen field. Therefore, it is unfair to question his knowledge and abilities in this area. However, he does realize the mistakes he made in communicating with the customer and is determined to respond differently should a similar situation arise in the future. We would like to thank the customer for his feedback. We hope we have satisfied the customer's concerns at hand and that after reading this perhaps he feels we (& Chris) may in fact deserve a better grade. :)"

We have used O'Brien @ our personal house as well as our 2 rental properties for several years now and they have always provided excellent customer service. We had an incident occur last summer at one of our rentals. It was a VERY hot weekend and the a/c went out. Mike, the technician on call, was very prompt and courteous and did not seem to mind coming out on a weekend. We hated to ask, he actually offered! He took care of the problem in no time and as a result we signed up for the Maintenance Contract which has turned out to be very beneficial and cost effective. Needless to say, we are very pleased!

We were not having any problems but had not had our unit inspected so wanted the peace of mind that everything was in good working order. The gentleman was prompt, courteous and professional. He did recommend one item be switched out as it was showing signs of wear and could lead to a bigger problem in the future. This item was not very expensive and he was able to do the replacement right away.

From the initial call, to the estimate, to the prompt response of questions, to the follow ups, to the scheduling of service, to the actual installation and to the efficiency of the installation was all PERFECT! Haven't had to call since the products were installed, but if I do, I don't expect anything less than a perfect response! My husband and I highly recommend O'Brien Service Co to anyone needing a repair or new installation of an heating/a/c unit in the greater Wilmington, NC area! We got a Trane, and that is what O'Brien sells! Highly recommend the Trane/Clean Effects too!
