Cape Fear Solar
Short version: Professional, informative, inclusive, on time and proper follow-up. If you are considering solar in the Cape Fear region, contact Cape Fear Solar.
I looked into several solar companies. Nowadays, it is easy to look on Google Earth at your house and property and estimate what roof space you have. One company did this, made some quick calculations and gave me an estimate sheet.
Cape Fear Solar met me at our house. They inspected our attic from the inside and the roof from the outside. They then raised up this device that measured the azimuth of the sun and, from that, were able to use a program to calculate the approximate sun exposure we would get, determine where best to put panels and how many, and estimate the energy production.
Our contact, Samantha, prepared a very professional packet which included a computer-generated drawing of our roof, all costs involved, expected energy generation and even a breakdown of the systems environmental benefits (e.g., crude oil conserved, CO2 emissions avoided). She presented us with several financing plans, if we were interested, and banks that provide packages for solar customers and she reviewed what tax incentives were available. She also gave us a list of 16 references with their phone numbers. She answered all of my MANY questions and, if she didn’t have the answer on hand, she had it to me within a day.
The installers came on the day promised. The installation took a little longer than planned because it started raining and they could not safely be on the roof. That was the only delay. The job was professional and with thorough clean-up. A few days later, I was met at the house to review the installation and what the next steps were.
The hassle is with Duke Energy. They need to install a two-way meter and they came up with numerous reasons to delay (whose name is on the account?, does it match the owner?, etc) all of which took time. But once we were finally on-line, everything seems to work fine.
I did not thoroughly do a line-by-line cost comparison with any other company. I was impressed enough with the professional, courteous and efficient package that they presented that my decision was clear. I don’t know if I could have saved any money with someone else, but I went with the pro’s with the best technology. If you are considering solar, it’s worth your time and investment to talk to Cape Fear Solar.
Matt Palmer was our sales representative. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable. He brought samples, diagrams and pictures of what our house would look like with the solar panel installed. The pictures really helped us. Matt never pressured us and answered all our questions patiently. The next week Nick, Brock, Ryan and Wesley arrived promptly at the scheduled time. The installation was going to take 3 days but they were able to complete it in 2 days. They all worked together as a team. We were at home during the entire installation process and my husband had many questions about the system and they answered them all with a smile. The owner John Donoghue corresponded with us over the phone and emails with pictures concerning our system. The company handled all the paper work/applications for Onslow County and Duke Energy in this turn key operation. Once the installation was done we had to wait on Duke Energy for approximately 3 weeks to do their part of the process. Once the electric meter was replaced at our house we called Robert at Cape Fear Solar Systems. We were really excited when he said he could be at our house in two hours. When he arrived, Robert explained/showed us how to work the system and put the apps on our phones and computer to monitor the system. The sun was shinning and it felt good seeing our meter feeding power back to the power company. Overall, we've had a great experience with Caper Fear Solar Systems and would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for Solar Power.
Besides being in the process of major home renovations, I work as a project manager for a commercial construction company. I deal with employees, contractors, and subcontractors on a daily basis for a living. I only wish more of the contractors I work with were like Cape Fear Solar Systems. If you are looking for a solar system in Wilmington I feel confident you will be pleased with their work.
We were completely satisfied with the service of Cape Fear Solar Systems. The proposal was professional and generally conservative in the savings estimates. We were introduced to a third-party financing company that provided a bridge loan that was delayed and interest free for the first year. This will enable us to apply for the state and federal tax credits before actually paying for the system.
The work crew knew what they were doing and were prompt in their scheduling. They were also very personable and left the property in better condition than when they started. The electrician did a great job in installing and wiring the inverters in my downstairs laundry room. There was great attention to detail, including painting the conduit to match the color of my vinyl siding.
There was only one glitch, a minor malfunction in the inverter, that was quickly resolved by a technician after the installation.
I have recommended this company many times already. My monthly electric bill since the system was completed is $30/month which is the minimum billing from our electric cooperative. We generated a month's worth of electric credit the first month and still have a credit going into the winter. Cape Fear should be congratulated on under promising and over delivering. It appears that the payback time will be significantly less than advertised.
