The project was a total demo of the existing kitchen and also demo of dining room wall. We made it one big room. Bill helped with all selections where needed. It was a 5 week project but well worth it.
We would certainly recommend Bill to anyone and would use him again.
So many things can go wrong during a project like this. The few minor bumps we had along the way were handled promptly and professionally.
The workmanship is top notch, thanks to Scott, the lead carpenter on the project. He was very careful with our home and made sure to include us in the little decisions that came up during the installation.
When the project was finished, we noticed a small problem with the new screen door they had installed. Bill himself, came to our house within 48 hours to fix it.
We are so happy with the way Bill has managed this project that we asked him to refinish our hardwood floors as well. If we ever need another kitchen remodel, we would definitely use Bay kitchens. We highly recommend them to you.
We don't know if Bay kitchens is the least expensive kitchen contractor, but it's hard to put a price tag on great service. Call Bill. He'll fix you up.
M&E
When I received the plans he had blocked the pantry's access. I emailed and repeated that it was not a option. The second plans came back with knocking out the wall between the kitchen and dining room after I had said I hated the pass through there and would consider re-closing it to take the kitchen back to the original (previous owner cut the pass-through out).
I emailed again explaining I would not change the floor plan and if I did I wouldn't be eligible for historic tax credit. His reply was that my small kitchen wasn't a kitchen, it was a HALLWAY!
Funny, this "hallway" has served this house as a kitchen for 88 years!
If you are living in a cookie-cutter house and want a cookie-cutter kitchen I think Bay Kitchens will serve you well. If you need someone to think outside of the box you will need to look a little further.
"Actual Email dialogue: Bill- Hi [member name removed], Attached are some views of the kitchen. Thank you for your patience. [member name removed]- Thanks but I will not be closing off the door. Did you do any of the porch enclosure? Bill- No, I’m sorry…it just isn’t wide enough at 63” it is a wide hallway but cannot accommodate a kitchen especially with the hot water radiator along the one wall. Would you consider closing off the door to the left of the range? [member name removed]- I am in a historic district, eligible for tax credits. I cannot make structural changes to qualify for the tax credit. I am also a purist and would never change walls or doorways. Bill- Oh right, Historic District- Then closing in the Craftsman style porch would not be an option. The hallway leading from the kitchen to the porch is not wide enough by code to install cabinets and counters. I understand your frustration…you have a small, cluttered kitchen with no counter space and a huge refrigerator in the middle of it and you are requesting a new design. [member name removed], I am a designer/ remodeler and we open walls and close in openings all of the time in order to accommodate the customer’s request of more cabinet space and to create function and efficiency. I am not sure how I can design or build more space for you without changing anything. It’s just not a reasonable request. I’m sorry. -Bill"
At the end of May I was sent a set of drawings by email. I responded with a few questions. On June 3 Bill wrote asking if Julie had responded to my questions. He said she had been on vacation. I wrote back that no, I had not gotten a response. That was the last communication.
I will now have to find another provider to do the work.
