The service seemed to go OK, once we were able to get him to come out. A few weeks later we noticed our water bill was well above average. Then we noticed a pool of water around where the irrigation system is installed. We called a plumber to see if we had a broken pipe coming into the house. It turns out that the pipe feeding the irrigation system was broken and leaking. The plumber had to put a cap on it. Appears when the irrigation system was winterized that Mcclard must have snapped the inlet pipe. Then when we tried to get him back out, Dave didn't return our call.
"[Member Name Removed] I came and winterized your system and SHOWED YOU THE POOL OF WATER THAT I WAS STANDING IN!!! I did not break any pipes to the irrigation they run 10-12" deep and firmly packed in the ground! Besides if I had broken them the water would be coming out where the backflow attaches to the unions not in the ground!! I CANNOT STAND SOMEONE WHO LIES ABOUT THE ACTUAL EVENTS THAT HAPPENED TO MAKE THEMSELVES LOOK AND SOUND GOOD!! TELL THE TRUTH, I DID NOT COME OUT WHEN YOU WANTED TO AND THAT I WAS THE ONE WHO INFORMED AND SHOWED YOU THE POOL OF WATER AND THAT YOU WOULD NEED TO CONTACT A PLUMBER, AND THAT I COULD NOT PERFORM THAT REPAIR. MAYBE YOU WERE NOT HAPPY THAT YOU HAD TO CALL SOMEONE ELSE OUT? FUNNY HOW YOU CAN WASTE AN HOUR OF MY RIME TO AHOW YOU HOW TO SET THE COMTROLLER AND OTHER ADJUSTMENTS AT NO CHARGE!! If you were so unhappy with my service WHY DID YOU CALL ME OUT RO START UP YOUR SYSTEM ON JUNE 16th?!?"
UPDATE 7/8/15: i never said it wasn't replaced, all I said was it wasn't working and just wanted him to do a follow up whenever he had time to come by. If customer service is such a high priority why not get in touch with those people who are calling, emailing and trying to contact you through Angie's lost?
I had another irrigation provider come out to check the zone that was not working. Yes, McClard did replace the solenoid, but not the zone was still not working. The new service man found a wire that had been cut during a new deck installation way before McClard came out. It took some time to find but the new company I used was very thorough and professional. As for not responding after 7 months, we did not use the system again until next season. Sprinklers aren't something we use year round that I would have known to check, since I assumed replacing the part fixed the problem.
"I had contacted you when the repair was completed 7+ months ago. The day it completed the repair I let you know it was done and working. Surprise I can check the connection and controller connection with out you being there. I tested the connections with a volt meter and all was well. If it was not working when the repair was made in the summer not winter, as you are implying. If it was not working then you should have let me know THEN not 7 months after the repair was made. I cannot stand when all is well until it breaks again and then you try to say it was never working!! Check your Angie's List email, I emailed you right after you contacted me to let me know it was not working! I keep customer satisfaction as a high priority! When the repair was made and it was not working WHY DIDN'T YOU CONTACT ME THEN 7 MONTHS AGO!! You not only paid for the part BUT THE SERVICE CALL ADJUSTMENTS TO YOUR SYSTEM AND REPLACEMENT OF HEADS! To imply that I took money from you to do a repair that is not only DECEITFUL but a LIE AS WELL! MAYBE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR EMAILS AND RECEIPT THAT I LEFT AS WELL!!!"
They came out and did the work, and I will say he was fair with me regarding replacing the broken heads and the backflow preventer (That was due to my stupidly not winterizing anything months before). Then he and his son moved several of the heads and added a drip hose to a new zone where I could attach a line with goof plugs, emitters, etc. I would have liked to have seen a better back filling of the digging - tons of weeds grew where they trenched things with the shovel and they didn't back fill completely.
When he was leaving he explained everything to me to my satisfaction. However, the next time the system came on I noticed a couple of heads were not working and one had not been moved. I'm surprised that he didn't run the system that first day after making so many changes just to check that yes, all the heads worked, and yes, all the ones they were supposed to move had been moved.
I asked him to come back and finish the work and it took several scheduling attempts for him to make things right. And not that I'm huge on this, but there wasn't any apology about the oversight, or any contrition, etc. Or any mention that he had completed the work, just one day is was done and he was gone.
Dave and his crew arrived on schedule and after the initial trenching of the property you didn't even know they were there it was so quiet! After installation Dave insured that all sprinkler heads were working
He then explained in detail how the control box worked and programmed it for us. We have nothing to do except watch the sprinklers come on. The entire project was completed neatly and professionally.
I would definitely recommend Dave to have your irrigation system installed
Although it was extremely cold outside and the lawn was overgrown, hiding the sprinkler heads, when Dave McClard arrived, he carefully checked out the major controls and located all the sprinkler heads and made sure all of them worked. In addition, he kindly mapped out the system for us, so we now know where the units are located in each zone. That is very helpful information, since we are planning to build a workshop in the yard in the spring and do not want to damage the existing irrigation system.
The service was provided very professionally and thoroughly. We never used this company before, but we will be a regular customer from this point on.
Thank you.
