When I pointed this out to him he said he would address it. I inspected it and informed him that it was lifting and the tack strip by the door was not holding. He called me back and said after consulting with another expert, they would have to come out to determine and quot;ifand quot; my carpet could and quot;actuallyand quot; take a stretch.
I understand that I have builder grade carpet and it was discussed this in great detail at our initial meeting. If there was a question as to whether the carpet could or could take a stretch, it should have been determined, discussed, or mentioned at the time of evaluating the job. I had scheduled a cleaning to be done two weeks after the stretch. Based on the lifting of the carpet I don't feel comfortable putting water on it. I will probably take my chances with a dry clean to prevent any further lifting of the carpet.
He was very personable and nice and I think the price was fair if the job was holding; but in today's economy I don't have $100.00 for job that after the fact, may not have been adequate or appropriate for my needs.
"At the initial meeting, I evaluated the project, it appeared to be a standard restretch and cleaning of the carpet. While going over the details, I explained that all of the furniture would need to be moved prior to our arrival. The customer had a piano and fully loaded book shelves. I explained that we do not move these items, EVER, its even on our website. After the details were agreed on, we booked the apointments. One for the restretch and one the following week for the cleaning. When I arrived, the customer was moving furniture. I started stretching the carpet and discovered that I would need to install a patch at the edge of the fireplace (this was due to the 6 inch stretch required to remove the ripples in the carpet). I did not charge for the patch. After I installed the patch, I started working on another area of carpet and watched the customer take her hand and pick the patch apart, then tell me that the patch came out. I replaced the patch at no charge and finished the project. I then confirmed the date and time of the apointment for cleaning the carpet. This was the second confirmation. I arrived back on the day that was confirmed and the customer tells me that the apointment was for the following week and I will have to come back at that time and at my cost. I agreed to the following week. The evening before I am due to go back, the customer calls and tells me that the patch has come back out and that several areas of the carpet are loose again. I have been patching carpet for 6 years and I have never had one just come out. Knowing that I had stretched the carpet to the 4% recommended limit, I called a carpet inspector to get his input. Due to the age and grade of carpet and risk of delamination, he recommended that I refer the customer to a carpet dealer and get their people to work the carpet. This was due to liability in case of total delamination with another stretch. I referred the customer to the recommended dealer and issued a total refund."
