Jay, the owner, came and gave me a quote the day after I called, and gave me several different options for how to approach the job. He tore down an existing chimney, reframed the ceiling, wall, and floor, and retiled the floor. He was meticulous about tile and sheetrock repairs, even in places that would later be covered by cabinets. He installed new cabinets, modified a pre-made countertop, and had a mirror custom made to fit the space. He accompanied me on trips to pick out finishes and hardware, and then installed all of the hardware exactly as requested. I completely trusted his opinion, as well as trusting him and his subcontactors entirely to be in my house while I wasn't home.
As far as price, he was right in line with the other bids I received. In the past I have had other contractors who gave me one price and then came back for more money half-way through a job, but that was not the case with Hammond Construction. He even gave me tips on how to cut costs along the way. I highly recommend that anyone looking for quality work give Jay a call.
